Samsung TV won't turn on. Red light is solid, won't blink when pressed. All capacitors seem fine (none swollen or vented).

That model is covered under a class actions lawsuit settlement over bad power supply boards. You need to contact Samsung about this and get a warranty claim started, even if the original warranty is over the settlement terms will cover parts and labor. You can get additional information about this along with contact information here:

Sanyo DP42740 plasma tv went out after a power surge caused by a thunderstorm. Now when I plug it in a small relais (I think) on the main board is clicking but tv won't come on. What is wrong?

I would not agree that Sanyo's support sucks based solely on the fact that they refuse to give you technical details.

if you need the schematics I can probably find them for you, but I bet you this is not the only thing you will ask for.

Supporting others is what really sucks because the reward for helping someone is having another 10 people coming for help.

And basically one of a 100 will consider paying for what they receive in return.

Consider this: a power surge may have hit the power, but may have also struck through the data cable.

The TV could have one or both of its main boards defective - the power board and/or the main board.

You start by making sure the power board produces all the voltages it is supposed to produce and if it isn't then you know you have a problem there.

As you may have seen this is actually a Panasonic power board and if you're in the industry (or if you do some research) you'll find that power boards are the Panasonic's weak spot just as Y-SUS boards are known to be bad in many LG plasma TVs and buffer boards are known to be the culprit of many Samsung TVs.

Long story short, I'd test every power transistor on that board for a shortage and I'd try to manually power it up to see where it fails.

There are usually 3 stages of activating a plasma power supply: 1) standby voltage (front LED present; always on); 2) main board and amplifier power (PS_ON); and 3) display sustain power (VS_ON).

If all that sounds too complicated then what you need is to go eBay and buy the cheapest board 1AV4U20C52300 that you can find.

Before doing so, though, make sure that's the same board you have in your TV.

Sanyo releases completely different models under the same model identifier and DP42740 may not even be a plasma at all depending on the chasis.

Hope this helps...if it sucks I guess I can at least consider myself Sanyo support level :-)

Samsung plasma tv made a really loud pop and the screen and sound do not work but the red power light won't come off unless the tv is unplugged what happened?

The main power supply regulator board has the fault. Check if any electrolytic capcitor/s has bursted out. Replace them if any. If this do not help you. repalce the board as card basis.
Replacing it as card basis is fine, rather than making 'surgery' to it.

Samsung T220hd won't turn back on from standby

Power up issues on the T220HD monitor are caused by a failure of the capacitors on the IP-49135b power supply board that this unit uses. The repair is easy, you just need to replace the 7 failed capacitors and the unit should be as good as new. Here is a link to some information showing what needs to be replaced to repair the power supply board.

I hope this helps.

Hi all i have a samsung 42inch plasma and i have sound , no pic ?

Your info doesn't indicate if you have a good onscreen display or not. If you do the problem is highly likely to be on the IO board on the rear patch panel of the tv. Replace this board and it should take care of the problem.

If you don't have a good on screen display the two common problems are either on the power supply module or the digital control module. Samsung is known to have problems on both these modules and an electronics technician should be able to remove these modules to inspect for cracked solder joints, or out of tolerance electrolytic filters.

If these conditions do not exist on either board then the power supply board should be replaced first before replacing the digital control board. Search for a vendor that will offer you a full refund will a small restocking fee if the board does not take care of the problem.
