Question about Whirlpool MH1170XS Microwave Oven
The turntable turns, lights work, everything seems to work except it is not heating. It is 4 years old under the limited waranty which will pay for Magnetron if that is the problem. Service wants $145 to repair if it is the magnetron. Otherwise $62 visit applied to repair. Could it be fuse instead? I think I can replace a Magnetron but of course Whirlpool said I would need to use approved service to get the Magnetron paid. Looks like magnetron for my unit is $45. Microwave will not heat. Everything else works almost 2 yrs with this product.
Sounds like the magnetron has failed. It is the magnetron that generates the microwaves that heat the food. If it or the circuit that powers it fails then it stops heating. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
