Entires and results in the main screen show up with missing pixels, while the menu bar(s) at the bottom of the screen have additional pixels. i just noticed that the missing pixels blink when the cursor is in the far right column.

i originally thought this was a low battery issue, but new batteries didn't solve the problem.

thanks for any help!

My TI-85 after twelve years (!) will not light up its screen, even after replacing the proper lithium back-up battery and the proper fresh AA batteries. Could it be my metal contacts inside the battery chamber are a little rusty? Would that make that much of a difference as far as not functioning electrically?

Tere are problems with your´s calculator display you need to take apart screws and carefull apart display, and then clean with isopropilic alcohol, arm display again and probe befor cover them, it´s ok close the cover if not repeat till the problem was solved

My groundbreaking TI-81 developed the same symptoms when I purchased it in 1990 for $250.

I dropped mine, and a line was totally out and the pixels had jumped like yours.

I called TI, and they said the integrated circuitboard had to be replaced. Since everything resides on the main board, your only option is to send it to them for repair, or buy a new one.

They should be up to the TI-1000 by now!! LOL

SPLIT SCREEN.

It sounds as if you might have split screen mode on. I've got a TI-83 as well as a TI-89 Titanium, both offer a split screen mode. The latter allows for choosing which applications are displayed on each half screen. I am presuming that you may have accidentally put your TI-84 in this mode.

So, if it is a split screen deal then all you have to do is go to the mode screen, find the option for switching from split screen to full screen, and switch it back to full.

I hope that helps. Give us your results!

- After you validate all values, press [2nd][MODE] to (QUIT) the matrix editor.

- In main calculator screen press [2nd][X^-1] to open the (MATRIX) functions.
- Use the right arrow once to highlight the [MATH] menu.
- Select [1:det(] and press [ENTER]
- The command det( echoes on main screen.
- Press [2nd][X^-1] to opent the (Matrix) menus again.
- Select the number in list that corresponds to your matrix (presumably 1:[A]) and press [ENTER]

Part A shows you how to enter your data and calculate some statistical values.

PART A

In the main menu select [STAT] icon to enter Stat mode and display the statistical data lists. Use the satistical data lists to input data and perform statistical calculations. Use the arrows to move the highlighting around the lists.

Exemple: Enter the following values in List 1

1st line enter 90 [EXE]

2nd line 85 [EXE]

3 79 [EXE]

4 75 [EXE]

5 70 [EXE]

6 68 [EXE]

7 56 [EXE]

When finished you press [F2:Calc], then [F1:1Var] and the statistical results appear on screen.

Title of screen : 1-Variable

x bar =74.7142857

Capital Sigma x= 523

Capita Sigma X squared = 39851

x lower case sigma n = 10.5249945

x lower case sigma n-1= 11.3682934

n = 7

Scroll down with Down arrow to access other data

minX =56

Q1=68

Med =75

Q3=85

Xbar -x lower case sigma n =64.1892911

x bar + x lower case sigma n = 85.2392802

maxX=90

Mod=90

All you have to do now, is to look at the theory you learned and interpret what these values mean.

As you know, the calculator uses a system of menus activated by the F1, F2, F3, etc. keys. However when a submenu menu option is not available in the context of a problem, it will show on the display as a greyed out option (fuzzy) and it cannot be chosen.

Turn calculator ON

If you do not see icons, press MENU key.

Use arrows to move focus on the RUN application and press EXE

Press the [OPTN] button.

A set of thumbnails (TABs) appear on the lower part of the display screen.

Each Tab/Menu is activated by the Function key just below it.

Press the F6 Key corresponding to the right pointing arrow

Press [F3:Prob] to reveal the probability functions.

That is what you see

If you press the F6 key you get the other options.

On the first screen above, the nPr menu corresponds to the permutations, while the nCr menu corresponds to the combinations.

To use them you need to enter n (the larger value), press the key corresponding to the calculation (F2 for nPr and F3 for nCr) and then press the smaller number (r). See screen below.

While the menus are displayed at the bottom of the screen you can use the other calculator keys to enter number, etc. As long as you do not press the Function Fx keys you wont activate them.

It is a display driver issue. You can buy a new one or get it repaired ($100).

I've had a similar problem in the past with my TI-86. It still happens sometimes when I don't use it for a while.
To fix it, all I did was set the screen to its darkest setting and left it on for 10 minutes (keep it from turning itself off, by pushing buttons every few minutes.) It works great, and the calculator is fine unless you leave it unused for a month or so.
A similar solution may work for you.
