Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Why is there low output from the Front Speakers of my Sony STR-DE695?

There is good output from the center speaker, sub, and sound speakers, but very little from the Front L/R speakers. I've done the normal Set-up and Levels adjustments. I've tried different speaker wires. I've tried different speakers. I've tried different video sources (BlueRay & DVD). I've tried resetting the system as detailed in the manual. I've tried going to the 2-Channel setting and rifled through all the preset audio settings. No matter what I've tried, the Front speakers are far softer than all the other speakers. Is this an amp breakage or a settings problem?

the only time the center and surround speakers put out sound is when it has a surround sound source such as a dvd etc. and only certain sounds come from them as well.

Testimonial: "@dunnbiker Very true on assumptions! I've tried everything the manual suggests. Right now, nothing is connected to the unit, but upon power up, I get the SP:OFF display (which is not seen in the DEMO mode). I will try the headphone jiggling idea and see what happens."

SOURCE: Sony STR-DH510 Multi-channel AV receiver

The STR directs sound to the center as instructed by its speaker setup. You say the center does not work on calibration. Is it defined?

Prove another speaker does or does not work on the center output. Then we'll know if it's the receiver or the speaker ensemble that has the problem.

Have you checked the manual for this "
There is no sound, or only a very low-level sound is heard from the center/ surround. "?

No output on main speakers

I have experienced a similar problem with my Sony STR-GX57ES and took it to a certified tech only to find it needed the power supply replaced. I opted to hunt down a compatible power supply but have been unsucessful thus far. That being said I picked up an STR-D665 for next to nothing and found the power supplies to be quite different (you would hope so any, with the ES meaning Elivated Standard and all) but with the D665 working flawlessly I'd rather have something working than nothing. Good luck!
