Question about Computers & Internet
The wireless quit working on my Westell and I got the Centurylink connected to my desktop. Both (my laptop & desktop) internets won't work at the same time? What's the deal?
A modem in a nutshell translates computer network traffic into in your case an analog signal that can be carried over the phone line to centurylinks central office in your area. A router is designed to route in a home setting, IP packets within your home network. So you need a router in share that modem connection.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.

Your Wireless router should have come with a CD. Insert the CD into your computer and follow it step by step. If it did not come with it here is a basic wiring setup.
From wall jack to Westell modem, From modem to uplink port on Max G router.
Reboot Westell modem. T
Everything should auto-configure unless you need a username and password for your DLS. If so you will need to program this into your router.

Probably you used the wrong type of ethernet cable, a crossover one. Try another Ethernet cable but this time a straight one.

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:
Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.
On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)
Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.
Do this on each PC and Laptop.
That should be it or darned near close.

what we can do in this case to hard reset the router and then re-configure it.
steps for re-setting the router:-
a)You will find the very small/tiny circular pin hole on the rear panel of the device very close to the power
b)Use the paper clip or a pin to reset the device and keep holding the reset button for at least 30-35s.
c)Then , While holding the paper clip take the power cable out from the device , wait for 10-15s and then plug the power cable back to the device while holding the paper clip.
d)Wait for another 10-15s and then release the paper clip.
e)Once we have all the lights back on to the device then take the power chord out and plug it back within 30s.
5)Once we follow the instructions the router will be reset to the default setting's and the internet connection will be terminated
6)Open the IE page and in the address bar type the url:-http://www.routerlogin.com and then press enter key
7)A small window will prompt up which will ask you to type the user name and password which will be
and then left click on log-in.
8)Once you will left click on log-in it will navigate you to the router's administrator page which will be netgear smart wizard page from where you can configure the router's setting's.
