Have cleaned out the inside, removed the spinning arm and checked those areas, but problem is still persisting. Also when I put it on a cycle and try to run it and re-open the door doesn't seem to be much water. Its almost like its pumping the water out immediately as I can hear it going down the drain.

Hello seagraves98 - Since you have already confirmed that the spray arms are moving freely and the filter has recently been cleaned, I will suggest verifying that there is enough water pressure coming into the unit. Is the incoming water temperature at least 120F (49C)? If not, I strongly suggest that the temperature be adjusted on your water heater If any proves to be ineffective, it could possibly have a communication problem coming from the main control board, I would suggest contacting a professional technician to diagnose the unit accurately.

SOURCE: Dishwasher makes a clunk noise

Hi. My guess is that it's the upper arm hitting something then! If it started suddenly I'd check that the upper bar attachment hasn't been dislodged from its proper location on the upper basket, and that the spraybar retaining nut hasn't come loose.

It happens on my machine all the time as the upper arm assembly has worn loose on the upper basket, AND the spraybar is worn where it attached to the static part so the whole thing wobbles as it goes round. An additional washer under the spraybar retaining nut might tighten it up a bit.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Cheers, D

SOURCE: Frigidaire Dishwasher - Spray Arm Not Working

This all may be due to an impeller problem in the pump housing under the lower washarm. If the impeller is damaged/bad the pump will not circulate water through the wash system correctly. On most Frigidaire dishwashers the lower washarm and top pump cover can be removed fairly easily to check it out.

SOURCE: Frigidaire dishwasher model FDB857RJS1 not pumping

HI, under the sump housing, there is a major issue concerning the circulation motor. there is a wash impeller that is connected to the circulation motor, via drive shaft and stud. this assembly has been stripped, due to a possible jam that was caused by a foreign object. the impeller is basically, producing the grinding sound you are hearing, you will need to replace this damaged wash impeller asap. it will ruin the motor soon if it is not removed.

This wash impeller is responsible for the flow of water during the wash cycle. it is not completely off the shaft but, eventually , it will break off soon, causing major damage to the circulation motor.

SOURCE: I have frigidaire dishwasher,starts cycle,can hear

Depending on your dishwasher, it fills either by a timer or by a water probe or float. I will assume its a timer as a probe or float wouldnt exhibit this behaviour. I would say you have a restriction in your water supply line. Check your valves, any screen filter in the water line for sand/scale/silicate/etc, pressure regulator if applicable. Another posibility is a poor magnet in your fill valve.

I can see from what you have described (by the way it is a very clear and precise description which is very helpful), there is a problem in the water circulation system. These dishwashers use an alternating water flow method to split the water circulation between lower and upper wash arms in alternate cycles.

The way it is done is by use of a small ball that reciprocates between two holes in the water distributor. See item 58 in this diagram. It is possible this ball is blocking the pump impeller and causing the grinding noise.

You will have to open the assembly and check it out. You may need to replace some of the parts if the damage is too severe as there is a degree of precision required for the water jet to go through the right contour to create the flow.

Good luck. Take photographs at each stage so that you know what goes where.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

There is a recall on the control board of many of these models, butyour problem is likely not related. It sounds like a plugged drain system or a possible bad drain pump. That's why you are hearing the pump running constantly. I have written a guide to help. It is here. Thanks!

Motor running noise

The humming noise and the fact that there is standing water indicates that the motor is stuck and trying to break free. Is the odor that you mentioned smell like a heated coil? This is a common problem with dishwahsers; but does not have an easy fix. If you want to try, first disconnect the power supply and open the bottom panel (below the door), Normally held by some screws. Then with a flashlight see if you can see the motor housing. You can then reach under and manually rotate the motor to break it free. Do it a few times and then reconnect the power and run the dishwasher and hopefully it will work. -Vish
