Lexmark X6150 My fax machine has stopped working. It tries to connect to the phone line but nothing happens. We have tried to reset the connections, checked the wires and nothing has changed. What could be causing this problem? It just worked a week ago.

Make sure the wire from the wall is plugged into the port marked "line" and not "phone". Also try plugging a regular phone into the wall and make sure you can make and receive a call. It could be a phone line problem.

Fax is not coming through.

If you have an answering machine connected to the same line as the fax, set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the printer does. Increase the number of rings by a factor of 3 over the answering machine. For example, if the answering machine is set to pick up on 4 rings, set the printer to pick up on 7 rings.

If you have a voicemail feature in the same line as the fax, you may subscribe from your phone service provider for a distinctive ring pattern feature. You can program your printer to have a distinctive ring pattern and phone number for incoming faxes.

Hello. If everything else is working, printing and copying, unplug the printer from the power source. Check the telephone line from your phone company by unplugging the fax machine from the wall jack where it is connected to. Plug a telephone device straight to that wall jack and check for a dial tone. If there's no dial tone, contact your phone company. If there is, plug the fax machine back to that wall jack. You can also try replacing the telephone cable with a another known working cable. Plug the printer back to the power source. Check again. Hope this helps.

We can't receive faxes on Lexmark X6150. It has a voice over IP phone service thru 5Linx

Hi. The problem can be caused by several factors. It can be the physical connection, the telephone line through 5Linx or the settings in the printer. Here are some tips on how to resolve the problem:
1. Check the telephone cable your using. Check for defects. Try to change the cable.
2. Make sure cable is connected in the Line port of the printer and the other end to the correct port of your 5Linx. If your not sure where to connect it to 5Linx, contact phone provider.
3. To check if the phone line is working, try to plug a telephone device in the 5linx where you're plugging the printer. Check for a dial tone. If there is, it's ok. If no dial tone, contact phone provider.
4. Voice over IP phone service uses digital signal which is not stable. The fax will have its optimum performance when plugged in to an analog signal. You can call your provider to have line adjusted to work with faxing.
5. If the telephone line comes with voicemail, disable the voicemail. It's settings might be having conflict with the printer settings.
6. Set printer transmission speed to 9600 bps. This setting can work with IP phone service.
Hope these helps. Good luck!

Phone dialup-local phone service

You do not need a dial-up internet connection to use fax. All you need is a working phone line. Beyond that it works like a phone call (think of it as one fax machine calling another fax machine), so if your plan allows you to call locally only, then you can only fax locally as well. If you try to fax long distance, it may or may not work based on whether you can make a long distance phone call. Also, you will be charged for long distance calls if you fax long distance. These fees have nothing to do with Lexmark or whatever brand your fax machine is, it is the phone company that will charge you.

Problems with lexmark 1270 sending fax

See if you are getting a dial tone from the phone.
-> If you can't, check the line.
-> If you can get a dial tone and successfully call out. Make sure you are not running on a digital phone system, IP phones, using DSL, etc. Fax machines have problems on digital lines and many either won't work without a line scrubber or work intermittantly.

Lexmark x6150 unalbe to fax phone line is active using dsl

Hey Tony - Did you recently hook this up to the DSL for the first time? This unit is supposedly not able to work with a DSL line.

The fax modem in your AIO is an analog device and cannot be used on an ISDN, DSL, or PBX digital phone service. However, you can connect certain devices to your AIO that let you use the fax function in addition to these digital phone services.

To connect without an unsupported line:
Connect an active telephone cable from the AIO to the telephone wall jack.

To connect with an unsupported line:
If you use an ISDN phone service, you can connect to an analog telephone port (an R-interface port) on an ISDN terminal adapter.
For more help and to request an R-interface port, contact the ISDN provider.
If you use a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) phone service, you can connect to a DSL filter or router that will allow for some analog (rather than digital) use.
If you use a PBX phone service, you can install an analog phone line for a fax machine.

If this was working on the DSL let me know. I don't know the location but obviously a separate phone jack is the easiest. Let me know. If this helps you fix it you can rate this as fixed. If you are just going to rate this as helpful I'd rather you please not rate it and just add a comment and say thanks for the info.
If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks.
