My wireless adaptor for my brothers xbox won't work for mine, why

Is there a disc I need in order to program my new xbox to have the wireless adapter connect? It acknowledges that there is an adapter but it won't connect to our wireless router. When I plug into his, it's green. If I try mine it stays red. Any help would be great.

Your settings need to be changes. do you have a PC or Laptop hardwired to your router? go to that then click START then
RUN on the left side. now type in "cmd" (without the" in it) then a little black box should appear. now type ipconfig /all That is all the info you need now go to your xbox. then go to settings or how evr you config your connection. then go to Wireless Settings now enter everything frm your PC's black box. stuff like IP Address or Default Gateway and ****. You have a router. do you have WEP encryption on it? listen to me.... most adapters won't work with that. Take it off and leave security disabled. If you are fine with people using ur router leave it. If not? enable MAC Address Filter. Every electronical device that uses some type of network has this. Liik on one of the sides of your network adapter then when you go to Setup Access List or w.e. it is called enter that. You will have to do this for any other device also.like any laptops other adapters or computers.

leave feedback

thanks

If it is green, then it should be working. Go to system or console settings and test the connection to see what is failing then call xbox live tech support to help with the specific issue.

How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter

Overview

If you connected to Xbox LIVE after October 28, 2009, a software update was installed on your Xbox 360 console to support the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter. If the update was installed on your console, all you need to do is to configure the wireless settings. To learn how to do this, please see the following article:
908877 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908877/ ) How to configure wireless settings on your Xbox 360 console
If you have not connected to Xbox LIVE since October 28, 2009, you will need to use the installation disc included with your Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adaptor to install software on your Xbox 360 console.

To install the software for a Wireless N Networking Adapter

1. If an Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter is plugged in to your console, unplug it.

2. Insert the installation disc included with the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adaptor into your Xbox 360 console.

3. Turn off the console.

4. Turn the console back on.

The software update should start automatically. If the update does not start automatically, the software might already be installed.

Note If you receive a mixed media error message, please see the section titled "Mixed media error message" below.
5. When you are prompted to install the software, select Yes, update now.

6. If a network cable is plugged in to the back of your console, unplug it.

7. Once the installation is complete, plug the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adaptor into the USB port on the back of your console.

For information about attaching and configuring your wireless adapter, please see the following article: 908877 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908877/ ) How to configure wireless settings on your Xbox 360 console

8. Remove the installation disc from the disc drive.

9. Turn off your console, and then turn it on again.

Mixed media error message

If you receive a mixed media error message, auto-play might be turned off. Here’s how to turn it on:

1. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.

2. Select Console Settings.

3. Select Auto-Play.

4. Select Enable.5. Repeat the steps for installing the wireless adapter (above).
Next step:

For information about how to configure the wireless settings on your console, please see the following article: 908877 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908877/ ) How to configure wireless settings on your Xbox 360 consoleDo not try to repair the wireless networking adapter.

Do not take your Xbox 360 console or accessories to a retailer for repair or service unless an Xbox support agent instructs you to do this.

Do not try to disassemble, service, or modify the Xbox 360 console, the power supply, or any accessories. If you do this, you might put yourself at risk of serious injury or death from electric shock or fire. For your own safety, such actions will void your warranty.

My Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter stopped working.

Shut off your console and unplug everything.

Connect the adapter then connect the console back together...Turn on console......Go to network configuration...Make sure u are connecting the adapter from the back!

If you are not able to achieve a connection for several attempts this means your should check warranty status for the adapter also.........If you unplugged it while the console was one you could of shocked the cable an blew the fuse.......Normally when u detach any components with a usb port u should alway make sure every thing is shut off before so.

Cannot connct xbox 360 wireless adaptor

Your XBOX 360 adapter should automatically be assigned an address by the router's DHCP server. I think you may be having a problem with your wireless configuration. Check the wireless settings on your router to confirm that it is indeed setup for WEP. If it is setup for WEP on bothe the router and the XBOX and the key is typed in correctly on the XBOX it should work. If it still doesn't however, disable the wireless security on your router, then restart your XBOX and see if it will connect without WEP. Many devices will have problems over WEP and not connect at all. If it connects fine with no security enabled then we will know that was the problem and I would sugest changing the security to WPA.
