Computer won't start.  Has power (fans run) but only sounds a single repeating beep (1s beep with 3-5s between).  Nothing else.

My Gateway GT4016 suddenly will not start--the fan sounds rather loudly, and there is a constant beeping.

That code could be either a video card or RAM failure. Hope this helps.

I have a emachine that powers ou, power pack fan, cpu fan but not the hardrive. It shut down and now won't start up. No beeps

Unplug from AC, open the case, clean if necessary, reseat the memory mods, use Electronic Contact Cleaner spray on contacts, plug in, push the on/off button. Does it begin to start, and in a few seconds completly shuts down? No LED's , no fans, nothing? Sounds like a PSU failure. Mine went out in 6 years.

Computer won't do anything, keyboard does not light up, screen is blank

So there is not so much as a BIOS message on screen? Any beeps?
If there is no life at all, you have a CPU/motherboard failure. This may be direct or indirect (e.g. no power to MoBo). Check your connections.
Otherwise, your boot device may not be operating. This is usually a dead or disconnected HDD. Check that it is plugged in. Does it get warm? Can you feel any vibrations from it? It should spin even if your cpu is dead but MoBo is alive.

Acer computer won't boot has long buzzing noise

The long buzzing sound indicate the nature of the problem. Depending on the manufacture of your bios will determine the problem. With only one long beep you may have memory problem. The computer cannot initiate the boot sequence. Did you add any devices to the computer prior to your problem. if you did undo what you did. Make sure the computer is on, if nothing happens ( no lights, no sound, no fans etc.) the computer has a power failure. Make sure you listen to the beep if it is a numerous beep sequence note it down and check the web for computer beep during boot up.

Acer aspire sa80-9b7z won't start up. Fan starts

Firstly check the monitor, if you get 8 beeps as it is starting up, this points to graphics problems. Trying another monitor. If the problem remains, swap the graphics card or use the onboard graphics card.
If this fails and, more importantly, you are not getting any beeps (single beep would indicate your CPU is ok), the problem is likely to lie with the motherboard.
To help you further, please repost with the number of beeps if any, you get as it tries to boot up

Power won't turn off and computer will not boot. I've removed the battery and cleared the CMOS with the jumper. lt happened after a couple of power failures at home however pwer supply has a surge...

If i understand you correctly, you are saying that you have a single beep repeating over and over with nothing showing on the monitor and no other response from your computer? The single long beep in a loop is an Award Bios beep code for a faulty CPU. This problem is not mentioned on the official website of the manufacturer. Unfortunately your only option is to replace the CPU. You might try removing and re-seating the cpu making sure you have proper cooling measures in place. Hope that helps!

Atx12v1 cable

The repeating single beep with a small pause (actually 3 Beeps a Pause) clearly indicates problems with RAM .Replace it ,your problem will be solved . As for connecting the 12 volt 4 pin connector all mobos are designed to sense the presence of this 12 volts and ONLY THEN TURN ON.
