Clicking sound on an external hard drive is an indication that it's quiting to work. You mentioned that it's just stopped working, you may need to check the Disk Management of your computer to see if you could still reformat it. To do this, please follow the steps below:

FOR WINDOWS XP AND VISTA:

1. Make sure that the HD is properly connected to the computer.
2. Right-click 'My Computer' or 'Computer' folder and then go to "Manage".
3. Locate and click Disk Management.
4. Then, take note of the drive letters that will appear on the screen.
5. While the Disk Management window is opened, unplug the HD and check which drive letter will disappear.
6. If a drive letter disappears, then that is your external 250GB HD. You may reformat it to make it work again.

NOTE: Reformatting the HD will erase all the files saved in it. You may want to bring your HD in any data recovery center to retrieve the important files. If the HD didn't show up under your Disk Management, then there's nothing that we could do but to bring your HD in to the Data Recovery to save the files.

FOR MACINTOSH OSX:

1. Connect your HD to the computer.
2. Click 'Go' (located near the Apple icon, Finder, File, Edit and View).
3. Select Utilities and then click the Disk Utility Icon.
4. Take note the drive letters and then unplug the HD.

If a drive letter disappears, that's your HD. If nothing disappears, then the computer no longer detecting the HD.

Good luck!

SOURCE: seagate external hard drive is flashing blue light

Hi,

Sounds like you have either bad voltage from your power adapter or a failed enclosure.

First thing to do is check the ac adapter your using, find the output Voltage, should be between 5-16V and the output Amperage, should be between .25A and 5A depending on the type of seagate enclosure you have.

Now look at the stickers on the outside of the drive enclosure to verify that it uses the same voltage and amperage. If it doesn't you're using the wrong adapter(easy mistake after a move). If it's the correct adapter then you may have had a failure in the enclosure.

The next thing to try is to take the drive to your local PC shop and ask the technicians there to transfer the hard drive inside it into a new enclosure for testing. If this works buy the new enclosure and you're on the way. If this also fails, something has failed in the drive itself and you will need the help of a pro. Have the technicians either return it to the original enclosure or pack it in a static free bag.

Now you have a couple options. I can refer you into one of several professional facilities depending on your needs. The most common one I use is www.armor-it.com They are the least expensive on average but average 4-5 weeks for non rush orders. If you need a faster turnaround and don't mind spending a few extra bucks, reply back and including your Country, City and State and I will refer you into an appropriate facility near you.

I have an 80gb Iqon laptop with 1gb ram and T1300 1.67ghz and want to upgrade the hard drive. When about to purchase a 2.5" SATA 320Gb hard drive 7200rpm was asked if the laptop could handle the new...

Probably. If it's a SATA drive, then the motherboard should be sufficiently advanced to handle it.
One suggestion--Unless you need a 7200 rpm drive, it's best to go with a 5400 rpm as it takes less power and your battery will last longer.

Sounds like the hard drive is having a problem. Try unplugging the PC for a minute. Sometimes this helps. If that doesn't do it. You can try putting in your operating system disk and do a disk repair or check disk.

Iqon Desktop to be reinstalled to Factory default Win XP Home.

Usually the problem lies with your Software or Windows Installation. The problem is when you Boot your computer it can't read because some how the hard drive got scrambled. You have to Install a fresh windows to solve the problem, no other way around it. Obvioulsy, its no good to you in this condition, Insert your Installation disk and turn the computer off and then back on, Install a new Windows. Good Luck. When the computer asks you if you want to install windows to that drive, you might want to consider if you have to delete that partition, and then create it again, after you do Windows will automatically format the disk for a fresh installation.

Philips iqon recovery cd

Its called, " iqonware iqon system recovery"...only available from iqon in dundalk (ireland)...if you go to there sales section you can see a picture of it, and you can click a button that says make a reservation for this product...and when you do you are then told a member of the sales team will contact you soon!
but there lies a problem....it appears the company went bust!
strange their website still operates really.
if youve formatted your entire hdd, you won't be able to use the F10 during boot up to recover your drive either...
only thing left ..purchase windows xp oem version (about (£65 i think).....
