Take a can of compress air and blow air into the vents as well as the cd area... dust can build up on the laser eye.
Also try the following...
Try different types of disc... blu ray, dvd, etc... see if the problem is global or just one type of disc.
if cleaning it doesn't work more then likely you will have to replace the blu ray player
The most common reason for the PS3 not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:
This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your PS3 including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your PS3 going again! Hope this will help...
use a can of air and blow it into the drive gently, need to make sure that specs of dirt or dust aren't affecting the laser to read discs.
Try games, dvd, music cd's, etc. If you try all kinds of different discs and the system doesn't read them and the icons are missing to let you know its trying to read then the drive is dead and the DVD drive needs to be replaced.
If your machine is under warranty then you can get a hold of Sony to get the drive replaced. If not then you can go on Ebay and get a drive fairly cheap.
okay, best thing to do is to make sure there is no dust or specs of dirt on the laser cause that is what reads the discs and loads the info.
Get a can of air and blow it gently into the drive so it gets the dust and/or dirt particles out of the way.
Now go ahead and try different games, music cd's, dvd's, etc. If it still doesnt read them then your going to need a new laser which you can search for on Ebay and get them pretty cheap and most of the people will give instructions on how to change out the laser.
Carefuly clean the middle section of your game disc using the soft cloth and insert the disc again. Laser lens can't read the disc if the middle section has fingerprints and etc. Remember when it comes to CD, DVD, BluRay discs all the record goes from the middle outwards.
You've done everything I would have done honestly. Take a can of air and blow it into the drive to make sure dirt or dust isn't on the laser which could affect if it sees discs or not.
The better thing to try if you are good at opening up your ps3 and then removing your drive and opening that is to take a damp q-tip with a bit of glass cleaner and clean your laser in the drive gently. Then put the drive back together and hook the cables back up to the ps3. You can leave the cover to the ps3 off for this step. Turn on the ps3 and try different blu-ray, dvd's, music cd's, game discs, etc. If it still doesn't read any of them then either the laser or the drive i bad. If it reads some discs and not others then its a weak laser and the laser would need to be replaced.
If you have to replace the laser or the drive, you can do a search on Ebay and usually find them fairly cheap.
Hope this helps and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
your laser had stopped reading games and most likelybluray movies also sometimes they still read regular dvd's and music cd's sometimes non of then but I can guaranty is your laser you need to know what model you have because there is 2 different types of lasers for ps3 and you can install the laser your self or have someone do it for you we are a ps3 specialist we carry all major ps3 parts and accessories but if you can find somebody locally is better for you
i have that problem too although mines is 40GB version i thought it was the grand theft auto 4 bug that had fucked it up but now it looks like a sony problem , gonna have to send it back which i really dont want to do
Try a laser cleaning disk, you may have debris on the laser head itself.
Also try different disk formats, such as Games-Music-DVD And bluray.
Find out if it,s reading anything At All.
