Sounds like the regulator is sticking or is airbound. loosen the water connection and then tighten it back. Could also be that the trigger gun is faulty or needs adjustment. Hope this helped

SOURCE: Karcher pistol gun has broken
Make sure you DO NOT have a check valve (this is what stops your hose running when you disconnect from the hozelock fitting) in your hose pipe system, This will send a shockwave through the pressure washer and destroy the fitting you mentioned. They can be easily removed.

The valve that admits more water to be compressed is stuck. It is likely the O-Rings on it need replacing. No water to the pump, no pressure!
The motor will stop when pressure is up to the designed pressure.

what about the brushes. even if they arent worn completely down they sometimes will not have enough pressure on the commutator tabs to keep the tool running. if it works better upside down or sideways that is often an indication of faulty brushes. the springs that hold the brushes against the commutator may also be
weakened to the point that they don't properly force contact. you may also have burned or blank spots on the commutator/armature.
try new brushes and make sure the associated wires arent broken, pinched or otherwise damaged. also clean the commutator with a polishing cloth or very very very fine sandpaper, being careful not to scratch, groove, or otherwise damage the tabs. also, the bearings that fit in the housing to stabilize the armature may be worn or seizing, which will cause the armature to move erratically and/or bind.
if all of these things have been done, and the problem STILL exists, then probably the motor itself (armature/field) is breaking down. the brushes and bearings at least are probably in stock at a local tool repair shop, and of course all parts can be purchased through hilti.
