Question about LG LFX21960 Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

Lg lfx23961sb replace ice maker fan

I have a LG LFX23961SB French Door refrigerator with the Error Code ER IF, which I know is the Ice Maker Fan error code. From what I have read it is either the control board or the motor itself. I am having trouble locating the part number for the motor so that I can order one and attempt a repair myself. I also am having a hard time determining where the part is located in the fridge. When I look at parts websites I can not find a fan labeled "Ice Maker Fan". The closest things I can find that make the most sense to me (I have never worked on a fridge before but have other electronics) is the evaporator fan located behind the back panel of the freezer. Can anyone confirm that or have the correct information? I do not want to pay someone hundreds of dollars to come out and fix a fan and if it is the board I will just live with my ice cube trays. The worst $1,800 I have ever spent was on this fridge. Thanks

I should also mention I have done the defrost thing many times, it as usually the freezer fan that was the culprit. Sounded like a plan was trying to land in the house. We can't leave the windows open for prolonged periods if it is a humid day, the ice starts to build up after 4-5 hrs.

Just as an update: I finally got LG to cover the parts and the retailer I bought it from to cover the labor. This fridge was a mess. I had to have the main board, water valve, display board and icemaker fan replaced in order to resolve the issue. I am glad I did not try to do anything on my own. The reason I was given as the most likely culprit was that at some point the flap on the dispenser must have gotten stuck open, pulling warmer air into the icemaker and subsequently the fan. Causing it to ice up and burn out. Doesn;t explain the main board and water valve, just glad it is fixed.

Take off the back panel and cut the insullation as in the photo and this will never happen again. What happens is the water gets trapped and then ice forms and builds up and causes the blockage.

The LG refrigerator "Er IF" error code is the "Icemaker Fan Error" message. As the name suggests, this error code indicates a problem with the fan that controls the unit's ice production. If this problem occurs because of ice buildup, unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours and allowing it to thaw may fix the issue.--------------------
The error "IF or FF" Both this error code are related to fan in the freezer section.
The error code is the freezer fan motor error. It could be a problem with your freezer fan motor or an issue with the control board not sending proper power to the board. Make sure there is no ice restricting the fan motor from turning. If there is ice then check the icemaker fill tube and make sure its in place properly and not leaking down on the evap fan blade. If the fan is not running, then its fan motor problem.Get the motor voltage checked. If its short, the motor has to be replaced. This will solve the problem. To order this fan motor. HOW TO REMOVE OR REPLACE ICE MAKER FAN

No, there is a different error code if the control board is bad or there is a wire connection issue. The IF error is a comon error and either the fan needs to be replaced or something like ice is blocking the fan from moving. Check to make sure ice or frost isn't blocking the fan, and if it's clear, you need to just replace the fan motor.

I have an LG fridge display giving me ER F1 code. i can unplug the fridge and plug it back in and the display resets for about 2 minutes and the the code comes back?

The ER 1F code usually means that there is a problem with the ice compartment fan, the ice maker motor or one of the control boards (the one for the ice maker or the main control unit). You can try resetting the refrigerator by leaving it unplugged for a day. Next check for ice build up on the fan that is blocking it from turning. Usually, if the fan hasn't been turning, you will have to at minimum replace the motor. It will burn out trying to force the fan to turn.

Sears Parts Direct has a diagram of the LFX23961SW case parts here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/lg-refrigerator-parts/model-LFX23961SW/3204/0161000/K0810254/00001.html . The fan motor is part 405G.

I hope this helps.

We get no water or ice from control panel. On panel it says Er iF. What does that mean and how can we fix it. We have tried resetting the power and it goes back for a second then returns to Er iF.

Er IF - Ice-maker Fan Error - This can be caused by frost accumulation on or around the ice maker fan. Unplug the unit for 3-4hoursto allow this to melt off. If error code persists, call customer care to check & replace ice maker fan motor.Thanks.

Error code is 1F - the fan has stopped working

My 2 year old LG LFX23961ST refrigerator started showing error code Er IF. In searching help here,
I found out it meant the problem was with the Ice maker Fan. When I checked the ports where the cold air blows into the Ice maker compartment, there was no cold air coming out (you have to hold the door switch in to turn on the fan). I removed the ice maker module (two screws) and unplugged it. When I closed the door, the fan started running, but was making a rattling noise. I suspected ice build up.
Emptying out the freezer compartment, I pulled the rear cover of the compartment off and found what I had suspected. Cleaned out the ice, put everything back together and Voila! Everything working again.
As I write this, I can hear ice dropping into the ice holding tray. Not sure yet why the whole ice blockage thing happened though. Will keep an eye on it. It's been several hours since the repair and no issues. All seems well. It's not rocket science. If you can use a screwdriver, you can fix it too.

I have a lg lfx25960sb,it is showing ER IF code on the panel above ice /water door, also not making ice?

ER IF indicates that the ice maker fan is not working. The fan is probably frozen. Remove the fan duct and housing at the back of the freezer and you may be able to defrost the ice in the fan enclosure. It will not defrost sufficiently by turning the freezer off for 2 to 4 hours as LG suggests. The fan may have frozen because of high humidity or because the defrost cycle is not working. If your unit is still under warranty LG should fix it by replacing the fan, duct panel and control board with new ones that have been re-engineered to prevent this problem.

Error message on LG Refrigerator

The message is ERROR ICE FAN. You can order a new one from LG for around $65 and if you know someone handy they can probably put it in by just eyeballing the old one. WARNING>>>>this must be someone with common sense and some degree of problem solving skills as it does not come with the fan blades and that must be switched. This is a common problem with this model and usually the ice fan goes out in about 12-20 months. Use your owners manual to figure out how to get the door off and access the fan. Also, Lg employees are confused and may try to tell you there is just one fan......they did tell me that!

The ER IF is part # 46811B1029E---The ER FF (freezer fan) is part # 4681JK1004E and only a skilled repairman can modify them to be interchanged.
