The picture tube base connection socket should be suspected. If the focus connection to this socket has damaged, this kind of fault can occur. Replace it. screen has rainbow pattern and colors, is it worth - 11_27_2012_8_04_54_am.jpg
Will look like this. Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in "Timeslide" or "Flipcard" option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the [Sidebar] tag, at the top left corner of the display window. You can also click the [Home] tab to the latest updates. It will make search easy. There are more than 1300 posts to different brand TVs now. Pull up older posts there.

SOURCE: Sony Trinitron Color Rainbow

Usually when a tv is dropped the phospher screen inside the picture tube will detatch making the rainbow color This cannot be fixed as it requires changing the picture tube. Only other thing is demagnatize it with a demagnitizing coil (used by tv techs) but not likely to fix it since it was dropped. You have a bad picture tube.

SOURCE: I have a rainbow of color about the screen

sounds like a degaussing (magnetizing) problem.could be that the posistor inside the TV set got loose when the tv fell down. If you have experience soldering electronic components, you should be able to fix it by re-soldering. Otherwise, call a tv tech to do it.

SOURCE: Rainbow of colors on screen

I just had a rainbow of colors on my tv screen...i thought it was a problem with my TV...however the screen went the "sign off" screen (verticle lines-red/blue/green) Then all of a sudden the picture came back and all was back to normal again.

SOURCE: bullseye rainbow of colors

In some cases this is due to the fact the internal degausser stayed on too long and magnetized the CRT causing the rainbow effect. The only way you will know if the set can be repaired without replacing the picture tube itself is to have a technician use an external degausser to see if they can remove the magnetism on the tube and return the set back to normal. If that works then the internal degassing circuit will have to be repaired otherwise it will happen again when you turn it on the next time. If it doesn't work then the tube was damaged by the internal degausser and at that point you will spend over 300 dollars just in parts to repair it.

Bullseye rainbow of colors

This is either a purity fault which is caused by magnetism affecting the screen. You would need to call a service engineer to remedy this as a special tool is required called a de-gauss coil. However there is also the posssibility that it could also be a fault with the shadowmask which is caused by the CRT itself, if this is the case then the CRT will need replaced & this would probably not be economical.

Have a Vizio P42HDe purchased in 2005. Right half of screen is fine. Left half is series of small vertical bars (various colors). Sometimes they go away and all of screen is okay. Any ideas?

I bought mine in Jan 2005 and today it did the exact same thing....doesn't go away. Seems like a 5 yr. lifespan on these.
Will try a Panny for Christmas !!

Almost certainly the convergence IC's are shorted. Big job; perhaps $300 to $400.

It sounds like the set is loosing high voltage to the 3 crt's. This usually ends up being an expensive repair, if the parts are still available. A new, or at least newer, set might be money better spent.
