What does document in ADF mean

Hello, Thanks for using Fixya today.
ADF is auto document feeder, used to feed a document into a scanner or printer. The error is associated when there is a document or paper jam at the document feeder, or paper trail.
This would happen mostly on scanners and all in one printers after witch a document is left in the feeder or there was a paper jam occurrence. We hope this answers your questions today?
Please contact us again if you still have a issue, or need help with anything else.
Thanks for using Fixya.com

When I copy papers on my Canon imageRunner 2800 there are 2black lines in the middle of the copied paper. How do i solve this problem?

Hello mike,
You may have a fairly easy problem to fix, and that's good thing ! If the lines only appear when you use the document feeder then we can handle this. Please place a document on the platen glass and make a copy. If the copy looks good then we need to clean your "scan" glass. The scan glass is the small glass located to the left of the large platen glass. It's about 3/4" by 14",and will only cause problems when you use the automatic doc feeder. If it gets dirty then thin lines will show up. If indeed this is the problem then I have a test u can use that will help you Take a plain piece of paper. Mentally divide it into 4 squares and then simply write the numbers 1,2,3,4 on each quadrant. At the top edge of your newly formed test document place an arrow pointing away from the body of the paper, and it needs to point "UP".. Now draw an arrow on the test document that points to the left "lead " edge. Put your newly constructed test target in the document feeder and make a copy of it. Now, you KNOW how you placed the test document, so lets look at the copy. If you have lines only thru the document feeder, then look at the copy you made and notice where the lines are. Ok, now you know where the lines show up on the copy, so lets take your "test" document and compare them side by side.Once you have made this comparison, and can see where the lines show up, take the ORIGINAL test document and place it IMAGE UP (1,2,3,4) on the glass. This will point out exactly where the dirt is. By looking at the copy that has lines, and where they show up on the page, you can use the test page that is laying face up on the glass and compare the 2. BOOM !! You can look towards the small scan glass and find the dirt that is causing the lines. With your copier, IF you place a document on the glass then the scanner moves to "scan" the document. But if you use the document feeder, the scanner stays in one spot and the motion of the document moving ACROSS the scanner and is scanned like a bar code. If there is dirt on the scan glass then a line occurs instead of a "blob" as you would see if you used the platen glass.I hope this all makes sense (I tend to ramble) and I hope it helps you. You of course could have far more complex problems. But your description of the problem sounded like my remedy/idea might be just what you need. Take care and good luck. if I helped you please let "fixya" know. SPINAL

Cannot clear error message "Document

Hi nigel_lester,

This error message "Document in ADF" that you are getting means that you need to remove foreign object from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Kindly follow the procedure below in clearing document jams:

Document jams in the ADF (Document Tray)

1. First, press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF. 3. Then, open the Feeder Cover.
4. From under the roller to the Feeder Cover side, remove the jammed page.
5. If a document is not jammed, check the document feed area if there's foreign material. If there's any, carefully remove it.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

NOTE:
  • If documents remain in the ADF after pressing during scanning, [Document in ADF] will appear on the LCD. Press so that the remaining document is automatically fed out.
  • When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Document jams in the ADF (inner side)

1. Press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF, then open the Feeder Cover.
3. Raise the paper release lever (A) then remove the jammed page from under the roller to the Feeder Cover side.
4. Open the Document Cover and pull out the document from the inner side.
5. Close the Document Cover.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

Note: When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

My printer comes up with an error saying Document in ADF

Hey there,
Your printer is giving you an error that a paper is jammed in the automatic document feeder. You need to lift up the cover for the document feeder and see if there are any papers stuck there. If you cant find any then go and shut off your printer and turn it back on. if its still giving you that error then there is a paper stuck and you might need to take apart parts of your printer to find it. It can be even a small piece so make sure you look carefully.
Hope this helps!!

I have black spots in printed paper by cannon irc 3100. The spots are in the first third and horizental. What I have to do. Thank you

There are a couple of different things that could be causing this.
If you are running a copy through the document feeder or just placing a document on the glass.....check to see if the glass is dirty. Specs on the glass could easily cause what you are describing. Especially with it being run through the document feeder.
If that doesn't take care of your problem, there are a couple of other things you could take a look at. The first of which would be to replace the toner cartridge to see if that takes care of the problem. If it does not, you are probably looking at a new fuser.
Are you leasing the device from a company such as Canon Business? If so, give them a call as they typically include maintenance with the lease. The maintenance is included with your print count.
Hope this helps!!!!

Explanation

there is no site other than looking at the specs for each machine at canonusa.com. As for the 3170 the 70 series is just a newer version of the 3100 however I would not recomend purchasing a used 3100 they are labor intensive. And yes the CLC series is old and outdated. The imagepress is its own beast, that machine runs very well.
If you are looking at buying a used machine in the 30 page per minute range I would go with a IRc3200, 3220 same as before the 20 is just the newer one.

Canon IR 105 Will Print from Network and Fiery but won't copy

So, the feeder will not pull in the paper, If this is the case, check the throat of the document feeder for foreign objects, (staples, paperclips, post it notes, or signature flags). you can clean the rollers with alcohol, and blow out the document feeder with compressed air. (Computer Duster)

Hope this is of some help.
