Will it play any tape? If it goes into play mode and you see noise (bad picture) the head may need to be cleaned.

Heads have been cleaned. It is only purchased pre recorded tapes e.g. films that will not display clear picture. Programmes recorded from the telly are viewable.

SOURCE: Used a wet VHS cleaner and now my VCR doesn't work right. Help!!

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.

SOURCE: Tape stuck in VCR, won't eject.

you posted 2 different problems here...
to answer this one ". The tape is stuck, won't eject and I'd like to get it out without damaging the VCR unit."...open unit, find motor that moves tape ejector and spin that motor by hand (power off)

the other problem, "the VCR will not insert a tape. It keeps rejecting it."...open unit and fully turn ejection motor until home position is reached...this is a home sensor switch not being activated.

The message is indicating the video being played is not compatible with the player! The connection is not the problem! Is the tape pre-recorded or something that has been recorded by yourself? Is the tape from another region to the player like pal or NTSC! What region are you in?

Vcr tape ejects when i want to record

One possibilty is the record sensor that pushes against the tab on the video tape (the bit you break off to prevent a tape being recorded on) has bent out of shape and the video therefore thinks ALL tapes are pre-recorded or protected and rejects them.

When I place a vcr in my machine all I get is a snowy picture. Why would this happen? The DVD player works but not the VCR

Make sure the tape you are trying to view has something recorded on it. Also insure that the tape you are trying to view is not recorded at a speed your DVD Recorder/VCR combo can not handle. If it is a pre recorded tape and it will play on another unit, then your VCR heads are dirty. Try using a VCR head cleaner. If that doesn't work the heads may need to be cleaned by hand or possibly may be bad, a trip to the repair shop would be call for then.

I have 2 DTV converter boxes - one for TV and one for VCR. The wiring is exactly as prescribed by manuals and FCC. VCR does NOT record programs from TV - altho it plays back pre-recorded tapes OK. I have...

Use only one box.
Connection should be:::Video Source(cable, antenne) connected to converter box:::::Converter box connected to VCR:::VCR connected to TV.
Try this connection and let me know how it goes.

How do I get my VCR to tape programs

Two things to check here. Lets verify the basic functioning of the unit. Have you tried playing back a pre-recorded tape? If so, please post the results here. I suspect that a pre-recorded tape will fail as well. If so, I'll post instructions on how to resolve the problem.

Please keep me posted.

Thanks,

This is a VHS VCR and should be like any standard vcr to hookup. Did you obtain this VCR recently; and was it used? What are you calling the 'monitor'? Is it a standard TV. Since you said pre-recorded tapes work OK, I think your cable connections are fine. With that in mind, if this is a used VCR, I think your 'recording/playback' heads need to be cleaned. This is not a big deal to someone who can look inside with some competence if they are careful. But the heads are very delicate and can be damaged quite easily. If you want to give it a try or discuss this in more detail, I can guide you (but no guarantees).

Playback sound

Unit might be picking up 60 cycle hum or other electromagnetic field. Is VCR sitting on/under another piece of electronic equipment? If so, it could pick up such from the power supply circuitry of that other device. Try moving the VCR away from other equipment and see if the unwanted sound disappears.
