Question about Garmin GPS
I received this for a christmas gift last year and its only 11 months old. It stopped working when I was out in South Datota, and it was working just fine.
I am pretty certain you can do a re-set by pressing / holding the left corner of the touch screen with your thumb or index finger during powering the unit on. then follow the on screen instructions for your Nuvi MODEL to re-set the device to factory settings. not sure what the format is for the Nuvi 40 but they are similar on most models. GOOD LUCK. Please let me know how you get on.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

if you have a laptop take it outdoors and reload the software while sitting in your car at your home, as the software loads it also checks for nearest satellite...I did have this same problem. It took me 9 hrs. to reload the software while I was outside...I ran an extension cord to my laptop.

SOURCE: won't acquire satellite
Try this and see if it fixes your problem...first disable bluetooth then follow these steps....
1. Power off the unit.
2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).
3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from the problem.

Try holding the power slide to the left and holding it there for 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try charging it via your PC & USB cable. If that doesn't work, try a mains charger if you have one (I had to do this with mine). Good luck!
