While playing music, the iPod Touch should switch automatically from earphones to speaker when you unplug the earphones. If your Touch doesn't do this, it may have a physical defect. There is no setting on the Touch that would cause this problem.
There is a switch inside the player headset female jack that is
deactivated by headset the male jack when it is plugged in. The switch
deactivates the outside speakers. In your case, the switch is not
deactivated so you hear sound from both. Three things may cause the
problem that you need to check.
You are using a not compatible headset. Make sure headset used is compatible with the player.
The headset is not properly inserted. Insert the headset firmly and make sure it sits firmly in.
The switch inside the unit is defective. It may be
stuck or broken. Disassemble the unit to check the switch. Insert the
headset and make a visual check if it hits the said switch and
deactivates it. You may need the help of a person with know-how in
first you can format it and see if that helps.but you will lose all of your movies and music,ect... you can back them up by copying them to your computer.if that don't work there might be something wrong with you battery.it dying and won't a charge for long or it takes forever to charge.sometimes a dying battery does weird things.for instance my treo kept resetting itself and i replaced the battery and it worked fine.try formatting it first and then see if it works fine before you reload any of the music to see if the music is makeing it act weird(the music might have a bug or virus.)if you got any more question email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you got another problem besides the mp3 player
i have the same problem. its not the headphones. its the itouch. its something to do with the jack-i think. because whenever i jiggle the plug eventually i can hear some of my music eventually. its a pain. and so how do i fix that ish?
Hi alot of people have had this problem but as you didnt buy it new then you cant send it back to them as they would have repaired this for free if it was you who brought it. It points to one of two problems as you say some of the keys are not working also then this could be a sign that the mp4 has got damp or wet at some stage causing the terminals to corrode this could be solved by removing the case and cleaning the contacts behind the buttons. Taking it apart isnt easy and you could easily destroy it completely as for the ear phones not working i know you said it works fine in a different device but it is still worth buying a cheap set of ear phones just to bw 100% sure as they only cost pennys nowadays. If you still have the problem after trying this then i would say that its either the damp or wet problem again with coroded connections shorting on the ear phone jack or it could be that it needs the two contacts resoldering but this isnt a job for someone who has never done this repair before as you can ruin it all together ok. Sorry their is no easy fix but hopefully you get the sort of idea what the problem could be anyway let me know if you need further assistance ok
try hookin up to the computer USB Port, and see if there is a charging Icon On The MP4 Player. leave it hooked up to the computer for 2-3 hours, then try it.
if non of this works, the internal batterys dead.
you can get replacements for these if you need 1.
theres a lot of chinese companys, that supply replacement batterys as spares.

hi the problem will be with the earphones after a bit of use the wires inside the plastic casing covering the wires where they plug into the mp4 these wires fray and eventually short out it is best to replace the earphones as soon as possible as shorting out will eventually cause the mp4 to overheat and short out. If you have replaced the earphones and are still getting the same problem then it will be the solder points on the jack plug that you plug the earphones into the solder eventually will work lose causing bad connection but first repalce earphones then if you still have the problem but you probanly wont as the solder failing isnt a known problem with this product then you will need to take the cases off and get to the board where the earphone socket is soldered onto the board then you need to resolder the solder joint that connect it to the board. But first repalce earphone with new ones as using someone elses or old ones might have same problem let me know if you need further assistance
