Question about Maytag 23 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator MSD2356

Ice maker not working

My ice maker stopped making ice. The freezer compartment is plenty cold. The water supply is uninterrupted. The last time this happened, I paid a repair man to come out. He was here 5 minutes and all he had to to do was reset something and everything worked again. How can I do this on my own? It can't be too hard, right?

I would check the ice maker assembly itself, perhaps an ice cube has not completely exited the mould, and is preventing the ive maker form cycling again

Not making ice fast enough

Good day,
Assuming the cubes it's making are the proper size, the speed the ice maker produces ice is determined by the temperature in the freezer.
When the ice maker harvests a batch of ice, an electric heater heats up the whole ice maker.
There is a thermostat embedded in the ice maker. It must cool back down to approx. 12 degrees before making the next batch. The colder the freezer compartment, the faster the cycles.

If the cubes are too small then that is usually caused by a blockage in the water filter if your unit has one, or the water valve that feeds water to the ice maker is getting weak, or lastly the water supply to the machine has become partially restricted.

On extremely rare occasions the thermostat built into the ice maker goes out of calibration which can cause a delay in cycling and requires the ice maker to be replaced. But again, it is a very rare occurrence.

Ice maker has stopped working. I have made sure that the ice detector arm is down.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.
When and ice-maker stops working there can be a few reasons why this happens.
1. Often there is a problem with the automatic defrosting circuit and ice starts collection in larger than normal amounts of the evaporator coils resulting in restricted airflow in the freezer compartment. This in turn results in the freezer compartment warming above 15 deg F and the ice maker thermostat requires 16 deg F or below to activate the ice making cycle. Once the temp is above 16 deg F the ice maker ceases to function.
2. There can be a problem with the ice maker water valve. The coil can fail. The plunger can get stuck or there is debris in the water supply.
a. Turn off the water supply to the unit and disconnect the water line. Be careful when you remove the line. The water valves in use today use a star clip inside the water valve to retain / mate the water line to the water inlet valve. The clip can be damaged if your not careful. Then check for water flow by briefly turning on the water supply. It should almost fill a glass of water in around 7 seconds. Reconnect the water line after testing.

After doing the above if you have not determined the cause use this link to assist in your troubleshooting:
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

The link will show you how to cycle and trouble shoot the ice maker and or water valve. I recommend you read it thoroughly before starting.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Ice maker stopped working

The water line may be clogged with debris. there is sometimes a filter in the water line to the fridge, or also a screen filter may be located at the point where the water line connects to the fridge. If they are clogged, your ice maker will not make ice and may even burn out.
Check that the water in the line is flowing freely. Also it might be a good idea to defrost the freezer in case you have a ice buildup in the freezer compartment. To do that, empty the freezer and blow air into the freezer for 30 minutes while the power if off. Note, keep the other side closed to protect the milk and other perishables.

Compartments are not real cold/ ice maker stopped working too

It sounds like your refrigerant was leaking out. There may be some settled at the bottom that would explain the frozen water on the bottom. a good appliance store should be able to find the leak fix it and add more refrigerant.

The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

Hello jitkagardner,
Welcome

You said, The ice maker in my whirlpool gold refrigerator Model No, GR2FHTXTBOO, is not working.

How old is the fridge?
When have you last changed the water filter.
Should be down below at the front grille!
Try these tasks!

If the ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice
Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on? Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
• Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
• Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
• New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production.
• Freezer door closed completely? Firmly close the freezer
compartment door. If the freezer compartment door will not
close all the way, see "The doors will not close completely."
• Large amount of ice recently removed? Allow 24 hours for
ice maker to produce more ice.
• Ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm?
Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.
• Water filter installed on the refrigerator? Remove filter and
operate ice maker. If ice volume improves, then the filter may
be clogged or incorrectly installed. Replace filter or reinstall it
correctly.
• Reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply? This can decrease water pressure.

Let me know how it goes!

10 yr old Frigidaire ice maker stopped making ice

try forcing the cycle by manually triggering the cycle a few times. Sometimes you can detach the trip arm or turn the tray by hand by disconnecting it from the gear. There may have been a switch bumped to turn it off or the switch somehow jammed. Maybe check for freeze-up. If there is water in it, it's going somewhere.
