Heard loud pop now not microwave not heating

My microwave is a m/w hood combo (on top of my stove). I had just finished boiling water on the stove and when I went to
heat up something in the microwave I heard a loud pop and now the
microwave is not heating. Everything else works.

    whirlpool MX7100XYB0 microwave hood combo.

Is this something that I could fix myself or should I call in a

    professional?

    thanks

I had it fixed today and it was in fact a diode rectifier that needed

    replacing.

    Thanks so much,

    Simone

It's probably blown high voltage rectifier diode.

Please reply back with your brand and model number from the tag on the microwave so we can help you.

I'd bet you mean MH7100XYB0?

If one follows the safety tips and testing procedures linked below, do-it-yourself repairs are safe and affordable.

#1 http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

Microwave runs but doesn't heat.

The sound you heard was an Arc from the magnetron which provides the microwaves for heating, this means the magnetron has developed a short which unfortunately means you are now in the market for a new microwave as the cost to repair is not viable due to the decrease in replacement microwave cost over the last few years.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

Actually, you should always use the hood vent exhaust fan when you're cooking on the stovetop, but I don't think that caused this problem, although it's possible.

Instead I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, which is a pretty easy fix.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

I have an over the stove kitchenaid microwave w exhaust hood. About 1/2 hour after boiling water on my stove, my microwave comes on. I have unplugged the microwave-----any ideas?

The issue is probably your exhaust fan on your microwave comes on automatically when it detects a certain temperature. Mine does this as well but will turn off automatically after temperature goes down.

Does stove-top need downdraft if microwave has oven-hood combo?

We have a stove with no downdraft, and a microwave with a hood above it. It works just fine. I expect you could keep your downdraft and put a microwave without a hood above it, and that would also work. I don't think, however, you can buy an above the range mocrowave oven, that slides in on brackets, which will not have a hood.
