Question about Dell Alienware Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No longer able to access higher video resolutions

I used to get resolution of 1600x900 .. Now I am only getting 1024x768. When I go to change the resolution it shows that I can only go to 1024x768. I am supposed to have two video cards one is when I am using battery and an NVIDIA card. However, I can no longer seem to FIND that NVIDIA card. I also am getting told that there was a change in my hardware and that my windows Experience Index needs to be reassessed. When I try and do this I am being told it cannot be done due to an "error from the operating system, driver or other component." I believe this is all related to the missing NVIDIA card and the lowered resolution

Everything has been working fine until a couple of days ago. I am also finding with the Dell/Alienware diagnostic tool that the Video Card Primary Surface test States it cannot find Direct3d support from the video driver. Also failes for Video Memory Test for same error. I am sorry my son reminded me that the graphics card (that I am not seeing in device manager at all and no errors indicated) is ATI . The diagnostic shows VIDEO CARD: Video card for the above errors. Then Below it shows Video Card Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD6800 Series] It shows as PCI express Status test Pass but no other tests appear to be run. I also got from my son that the computer "may have fallen" while he was using it. But the card was working after he picked it up. It wasnt until reboot that there was a problem. I do not know if this information helps...

I do have Square Deal 3 year warrantee for any damage including drops and spills.

I have been able to get my resolution fixed but I am still not seeing my AMD Radeon Graphics card.

Okay after going through multiple diagnostics and multiple drivers...Losing bluetooth capabilities, downloading even more drivers, It seems I have gotten my computer pretty much back to where it was. I was starting to get nervous as my warantee ends 12/07/12. I do have a square deal warantee for another 2 years after that but still wanted to make sure everything was working correctly after finding out my son DID drop my laptop. Thanks to all who looked at and followed my problem. :) Happy Holidays!

Have you tried removing the card and replacing it in a different slot which should get the computer to automatically find the card and the right drivers.

SOURCE: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 : error code 43

It's a hardware problem, Code 43,
A device driver notified the operating system that the device failed.

According to the code, or according to as I understand it, it should be a hardware problem, but I think that it is a software problem
try downloading these drivers,

check this out as well

But if it is a hardware problem, then you might try the following steps
"turn off computer, open the case, and clean it inside, using compressed air.
Remove video card, hold fans blades with a chopstick, or a pencil, and give the fan a nice cleaning, as well.
Clean video card connectors with an eraser. Put it back.
Restart computer."

I hope that helps

Change the resolution on my Samsung B2030 LCD Monitor

1600X900 is a higher resolution than that of 1280X1024. Therefore 1600X900 is a better resolution. If you would like to run at the lower resolution simply right click your desktop screen and click properties. Then on the settings tab use the slider bar to adjust the resolution. Lower to the left and higher to the right. If the desired resolution is unavailable then you could try downloading and installing the latest drivers for your graphics card installed in your computer.

Your card will either be AMD/ATI Radeon or Nvidia. You will need the model number of the graphics card, the latest drivers may increase resolution support for your card.

Also look on the bottom right hand side of your screen for an Nvidia Control Panel logo in green. Right click it and select the option to "change screen resolution" This may provide you with additional resolution options.

Take care!

Help I have just installed this software called corel video studios express 2010 but i cant open it as it displays a window saying the supported minimum screen resolution is 1024x768 help

The screen you are using is set to a resolution below what is needed. My guess is you are using a TV or widescreen monitor you have set to 1280 x 720 which is not large enough. Change the screen resolution to some higher than what is recommended like 1366 x 768 or higher.

My Mac will not install the Digital camera Solution Disk says my screen resolution is insufficient...

This must be because you have a widescreen monitor or because you have set a screen resolution that's too low for anything.
Most programs ask for a screen resolution higher than 1024x768 (which they rarely actually need) to install.
So you can change yours to that value (or higher) for the installation and if it distorts your display, set it back to the original value later.
To see how to change your resolution, go to this site;
After setting the resolution to 1024x768 or higher, run the installation and it should proceed with no problems.

Hi, i own compaq presario CQ42 369TU laptop, how do i increase my screen resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 or higher ?

For Windows XP...

Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.
When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.
Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

If you cannot set it any higher than 1024x768 and you have already installed the video drivers, that is as high as it can go for your hardware.

Videos play on the Vivitar camera o.k. but when downloading to lap top the reults are poor

That's because it's playing in a much higher resolution than it was recorded in. for example. your camera my record in 640x480 resolution which is ok when played on a small screen, but when you play it on your laptop which may have a resolution of 1024x768 or higher the video will look grainy or pixelated. that is the reason. You may be able to change the resolution in which your camera records video, the higher the resolution the better. If not then your stuck with it the way it is. Hope this helps

Elongated print and pictures

It's most likely your desktop resolution that does not match the ratio of your screen.
The E193FP is a regular 19", which means you should be using resolutions such as the following:
1024x768 1280x1024
These have a ratio of 4:3 (if you divide the first number by the second you should get 1.33333).
If you are using a widescreen resolution, such as 1600x900 then you will experience distortion.

16:9 resolution problem

You don't specify your machine type, or the operating system, but let's assume a desktop computer and Windows XP...

Was the monitor recognized properly by the video driver?

Go to Display Properties, settings, advanced, monitor and see if Plug and Play monitor is installed. All modern graphics cards talk to the monitor to discover it's capabilities and should adjust the available resolutions so that the monitor's native resolution is available for choosing.
If some other monitor is listed there, change it to Plug and Play monitor. If still having troubles, you can do two things:
- update the video driver for your graphics card
- find the monitor's .inf file (it should be on a CD that comes with the monitor, or can be downloaded from DELL site), and install this instead of the Plug and Play monitor or whatever you have in your monitor setup (as above, go to monitor - properties - update driver).

Samsung 27'' lcd tv for Pc Monitor resolution max is only 1024x768

Use a DVI (female) to HDMI (male) cable to connect your PC video card to the LCD TV. You will then be able to use the full resolution of the LCD TV. You will always be limited to the max resolution of the TV though, not matter your video card.

My acer aspire screen gets small while surfing the net.

This problem can be caused by not having installed the correct video driver.
The screen resolution needs to be set higher.

Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings and change the Screen resolution to 1024X768 or higher. If you can't change the screen resolution then most likely you need to install or re-install the video driver.
