If you can not activate over the internet, select the telphone option It will come up with a bunch of numbers. Call microsoft (888.571.2048 in the US...to find the number if you're not in the US, select your country from the drop down list). It will go through an automated process where you enter in the numbers, it will validate for you then you type in the numbers they give back to you. If that fails, then you will be forwarded to an MS representative who will assist you in activating your product.

Windows stores the activation information in two files in the c:\windows\system32 folder: Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak. If those files are locked, or permissions are incorrect, Windows may not be able to save its activation information.

You might also want to check the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFTNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
(change Activation Required value to zero)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
(change RegDone value to 1)

Boot into safe mode, click Start→Run and type regedit then check these values.

I would guess that a complete rebuild was done on this system using the product key that came with the box. In order for this software to work properly, you must activate the key. This is done at the factory before the unit is shipped and when a complete rebuild is done, you must perform this step as well. Connect to the internet Microsoft website to do this. If you do not have an internet connection available, there is the option to perform the activation over the phone. Once this information is entered, the system will be fully functional. This must be done to verify and validate the OS installation. Dan

Cannot Open DSA.MSC file error

When you install the Administration Tools Pack on a computer that is running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in file (Dsa.msc) is installed in the %windir%\Syswow64 folder. Additionally, the computer's file system maps the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in to the following path: DriveLetter:\%windir%\Syswow64\Dsa.mscHowever, the Active Directory Domains and Trust MMC snap-in incorrectly specifies the path of the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in as follows: DriveLetter:\%windir%\System32\Dsa.mscWhen the computer's file system tries to locate the Dsa.msc file from within the Active Directory Domains and Trust MMC snap-in, Mmc.exe is run. Mmc.exe is run because the Dsa.msc file is associated with Mmc.exe. When Mmc.exe is run, it uses the following path to locate Dsa.msc: DriveLetter:\%windir%\System32\Dsa.msc DomainPathAfter the Mmc.exe command is run, the Active Directory Domains and Trust MMC snap-in tries to locate the Dsa.msc file. Because the Dsa.msc file does not exist in the %windir%\System32 folder, the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section is generated.

To resolve this problem, manually copy the Dsa.msc file from the %windir%\Syswow64 folder to the %windir%\System32 folder.

Hello aubrey8025,
You need to activate your copy of Windows within a few days after which, the system will be inoperable.
In order to activate your copy of Windows, you need to enter a genuine product key. If you do not have a product key, contact Microsoft to purchase a new product license.
