My cat jumped on topof my laptop and when I went to shoo him off one of his claws took off one of my keys....how do put it back on....do have all pieces......acer laptop Is there a web site you could direct me too that shows how to replace thi key? Appreciate much.....
My 6 month old just pulled off two of the keys while "typing". I came here for the solution. After looking at the underside of the key for a moment, realized the bottom half slides into place. So I put my finger on the bottom half of the key first, slide up and down a couple times. The important part is to click the top part of the key in place last, by pushing down firmly. And vhah-la!

Re: key off computer keyboard
Most of the time the keys are a pain to replace and if you do get it back on it is more prone to pop off again. If the computer is under warranty I would contact Acer and get the keyboard replaced. If not then search online especially Ebay for a replacement keyboard. Usually pretty cheap.

try rebooting the computer and as soon as it begins to start up (before the windows screen shows) tap repeatedly on the "F8" key on the top of your keyboard. when a boot menu appears choose "safe mode" when the computer loads you will have the window default settings and you should see your screen. If this works simply reboot the computer and it will load to normal mode. If this does not work let me know and I will attempt to help you further
Laptop keyboards have a function key that changes the brightness level. You access this by using the FN key on the bottom of the keyboard along with the brightness level, possibly the F8 key. There should be icons on the 'F' keys to show which key will increase the brightness on the display.
puddy cat has stood on whats called a sticky key if you have a user book it will tell you how to release it.i cant quite remember the exact key to use but you have to press and hold down the fn key then hit one of the F keys.F2 for example, i just cannot remember which F key it is. hope this helps
If the cat has not eaten the small plastic clips that fixes the key to the keyboard, you are in luck.
Just place the key over the keyboard, align it so it is square with the other keys, push it down firmly until it clicks into place.
If this does not work then you have some missing parts or bent piece of plastic.
If you are game, you can remove an adjoining key by lifting it up, then you can check this key and see if it matches the other key for missing or bent parts.
Your Dell supplier may have replacement keys, if not you will need to replace the whole keyboard.
