take a credit card and scrape the glass clean. You only need to clean along the right side of the glass where the paper passes through. Dirt that you can't even see will cause the lines.

If your copies are clean when you scan them by opening the top and laying the original on the platen, you need to check the scanner for the ADF (automatic document feeder). It's a narrow strip of glass to the left of the scanning platen glass. Clean it with a soft cloth dampened with clear water. (Look for some type of deposit that aligns with where you see the line on the page.)

if you are using the feeder then there is something on the thin glass and it needs to be cleaned. if you are using the platen glass and the line is still there then you need a new drum.
