After installing updates on my computer my scrollbar on the mousepad also stopped working. It'd be great if someone could tell me how to fix it.

I think I can help you. I need to know what kind of mouse driver you are using. To find out click on the control panel, click on mouse properties, click on device settings. Under devices it should show Enabled/Name/Port. Under Enabled it should say Yes. Under Name should give the name of the device being used and under Port it may or may not show anything. Ex. Yes /Synaptic TouchPad V7.2 / Port/2. If this is what yours shows, double click on the highlighted device and a menu will come up. From there you can reactivate your scrollbar. If yours does not show a device in the list, sometimes it will show where to go to download the device in the bottom righthand corner. EX:(www.synaptics.com) If not, you will have to find the name of your device. Hope this helps. Tim

Hi. I have the same problem, and I've followed your instructions - right up to the 'activate' part. When I try to select 'Activate vertical scroll', no dot appears in the little selection circle (and it doesn't make the scroll bar work). The text in the box below the activation box changes (to sth about horisontal scrolling), however, so there IS some sort of reaction. Just not the right one, So what's going on? - Sincerely, Maja.

Hi Tim. I have the same problem, and I've followed your instructions - right up to the point of activating. When I try to select 'Activate vertical scroll', no dot appears in the little selection circle(and it doesn't make the scroll bar work). There's no dot in the deactivation circle, either. The text in the box below the activation box changes, however (to sth about horisontal scrolling), so there IS some sort of reaction. Just not the desired one. So what's going on? - Sincerely, Maja

Go to HP.com and download the driver for the Synaptics Touchpad and install it.

This the one on the trackpad?

Make sure the trackpad application (not just the driver) is installed and running that came with the HP (probably visable as an icon near the clock).
The scrollbar is not a feature of windows (unlike normal mouse operation) and it requires the HP mouse trackpad app to be running.

troubleshoot for a disconnected wire right below the mouse pad or under the speaker panel. I went through the same problem... it was a disconnection problem. I fixed it myself and never tore a computer apart before. It works great now!

Ok,The setting for the touch pad are not in the mouse settings,They are in the pen and input settings.

Just go to the control panel and select Pen and Input setting and adjust as needed.

Also with Vista,Windows tries to control everything,so you may need to un install the mouse drivers and allow windows to take control,It will not prevent the touch pad from working,It just stops it from being controlled by the touch pad driver and the windows mouse driver ar the same time.
