Muffled sound I can hear other people just fine, but people tell me that I sound muffled. This happens regardless of where I am, and whether I hold the phone directly up to my mouth or father away.

It is possible that your cell phone has gotten something covering the mic or dirt has gotten into it. There is a piece of felt that is used near the mic area. It is possible that it has moved or was never in the correct place. In order to know a person with experience would need to take th phone apart to check the mic area. Or you might just want to have a new mic added.

When I first got my phone the alarm was working fine but now it just sounds muffled and I tried everything what can I do to make it louder again?

How does everything else from the speaker sound? If everything else sounds muffled, then there might be an issue with the speaker itself, which isn't readily repairable. If everything else is fine, check and see if the sound is coming out of the correct speaker. I am assuming you've adjusted the alarm volumes and rebooted the device...

My cell phone calls are muffled

Check the microphone area to make sure no lint is blocking anything. If you use a protective case, try taking it off to see if there is any difference. Make sure if you are not using Bluetooth to have it off, on some models if you have Bluetooth on and are not paired with anything, you get a muffling effect.

When I hold my new iPhone 5 with my left hand, the caller says my voice is muffled. Not so if holding phone on right side.

This is because the mic is located on the left side (phone facing toward you) as you switch hands the mic is moved further from your mouth.

It usually is something that can't be fixed on your own without having to open the phone up. That is something that can usually on be fixed by a professional unfortunately, but those damages don't cost to much to fix. It always just depends on what they charge for labor.

You have a bad microphone. You can take the phone apart and replace it with a new one if you order it off ebay. Minor soldering skill required.

Sound quality is poor...hard to hear on it...people say i sound muffled when talkin...had this for only a week

Do you have any screen protectors or cases on the device while using it? If so try removing them and see if that helps

Also try rebooting the device (pushing and holding power button to turn off, then push and hold power to turn back on)

If this does not solve your problem, I would reccomend taking it back to the verizon store, could be a hardware defect.
I have the same phone and love it, never had any complaints,

Best of luck,
