Repairing windows on evo 400c that will not boot?

I bought a compaq evo 400c from ebay. upon booting, it says my config\system file is corrupt or missing. I have a usb cd rom but have no clue how to boot from cd to reload an operating system (xp). Any ideas?

- I have the os cd. how can i get into the boot order to recognize the usb cd rom?

you must have the os cd or the boot cd in order to repair the corrupted files it's clear that it's in the os

- go to bios setup by pressing del or f1 during startup then find th eboot sequenc ethere and make sure the first priority is the usb slot then hard disk,cd rom
