Sony KF-42WE610 Replacing the Lamp

Having difficulty getting the front panel off. I loosened the screws at the rear side panels. The diagram shows to then remove the front panel. The panel is hanging up at the bottom center where the power button, and power and lamp indicators are located. Concerned that I might break it

How do I access the lamp on a Vega KF-60WE610?

This page shows Sony lamp location and bulb replacement.
Sony DIY Bulb Guide.

The XL2100 Lamp assembly is located behind the grill, under the front screen. Thumbscrews on left and right loosen and the panel pulls off.

Open Lamp access door by loosening the thumbscrew on the front. The lamp is behind the door and attached by two mounting screws. The mounting screws require an "Allen" or Hex key.

Never attempt to access the bulb or open the door when the bulb is hot. Allow 30 minutes to cool.

Look for specific LED indicator codes on the front of the TV. An explanation of the most likely fault is in your Sony user's manual. Links to free Sony user manuals are also on the link above. Lots of instructions regarding safety, mercury disposal, removing the lamp.

Do not buy a bulb and waste your money if any Sony TV Optical Block or Optical Engine Faults are or were visible before bulb failure.

I have a sony kf 42we610 and there is no picture or sound, It has a flashing red light that says lamp?

Most likely it is the lamp. It uses a XL2100U lamp. You can check if the lamp has failed by removing the lower front cabinet cover to gain access to the lamp door cover. This is done by
loosening the retainer screws on the back at each end of the rear cabinet. Once the screws are
loose, the front lower cabinet off. The lamp door is located just left of center and it will also have a
thumb screw securing it. Loosen the screw and remove the lamp cover. The lamp has hex screws
holding it in place. A correct allen wrench can remove it. Once the lamp is removed it will be obvious if it is bad. Most of the time it will be shattered. If you get the complete lamp assembly with
cage, it will run anywhere from 170.00 to 200.00. If it is a genuine Sony lamp that is recommended,
it will come with a hex wrench for ease of replacement. Reverse assembly to install.
To order it from Sony, you can call 1800-222-sony. You can also find other retailers by Googling the model number of your tv.
I hope this helps,

I have the kf-42we610 and it just buzzes and the light blinks when i try and turn it on. how can i tell if the lamp needs to be replaced

Take the front cover off of the tv. There are 2 knobs on the back of the tv (one on each side) that you have to unscrew and then you can pop the front panel off. Now you can take the lamp out using a metric allen wrench on 2 bolts. When the lamp is broken it's generally shattered or atleast the long middle section is detached from the lamp. Hope this helps

KF 42WE610 - can't find the access panel for the lamp to replace it

When looking at the back of the TV: On each far lower side, you will see a thumb screw with a coin slot head. Use a quarter and fully loosen these 2 screws. Go back to the front of the TV: starting from either side, firmly grasp the lower cover (speaker grill) by the bottom. You will notice that is is now moving. Place your other hand on the TV to prevent it from moving and with a sharp quick motion, PULL HARD. The cover will bend and you will think it's going to break... it's not. This cover is difficult to remove and makes some serious popping sounds as it does. I recommend working both sides loose, then in towards the middle. After you get the cover off, the lamp door will be visible in the left center of the TV. Be sure to unplug the TV before you remove the lamp door and replace the door before you plug the TV back in. Best wishes, I hope this was helpful.

Sony tv kf-42we610 tv will not come on and red light blinks three times

Three flashes usually means the lamp cover is not attached securely and the TV has gone into a "stand by" mode, recheck that the lamp, lamp door, and front panel is securely attached.

Good Luck !

Howdy,
It sounds like your Lamp is bad, part number XL2100.

To replace Lamp:
1) Loosen the screws on rear panel (2 thumb type screws on either side of TV, just behind front panel/spreaker grill).
2) Remove front panel.
3) Loosen the screw with coin or similar object to remove Lamp cover (near left hand side).
4) Loosen the 2 screws that hold the Lamp, then pull out Lamp. Don't force Lamp it should go in easy.
5) Replace the new Lamp and tighten the screws, reattach Lamp cover & tighten screws.
6) Reattach front panel cover.
7) Tighten screws for front panel cover in it's place.

Good Luck, Big Irish.

How do I remove front panel for sony KF-60WE610 TV

Easy!

Have a look at the bottom left and right corners of your set from behind. You will see two plastic flat head screws. You can loosen the screws by hand, they are made for it.

No do not try to take them out completely, they are not supposed to come out all the way.

Pull the silver bottom panel off. Pull it from the front. It will still be stuck, but only due to magnets Sony has mounted to ease the reassembly after fitting the new globe.

Once you have done what you want to, remember to tighten the plastic screws, once again do it by hand.

Good luck!
