Mac OS x error -143

I have a Microtek ScanMaker 4900 Flatbed Scanner. It has worked beautifully since I got it, but when I moved it the other day and reset it up in another room... I now have issues with it not wanting to scan at all. The computer verifies that it sees the scanner. It has power and is hooked up correctly (USB).
When I ask it to scan all I get is an error -143. The machine sees the computer because I have tested the programmable buttons and when I choose the button that is to scan, once again all I get is a -143. I took it apart and cleaned it, making sure all pieces were connected (thought maybe something came loose)...
Any ideas as to what this error means or how to fix it?
