Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a dell dimension 4700. I recently attempted a replacement of the 80GB SATA hard drive with a Western Digital 500GB SATA drive. While creating partitions, I created a 137GB partition and followed with a partition for most of the remaining 363GB. During the partition process, the process only recognized around 300MB in the second partition rather than the ~ 363GB. I am currently running XP SP2. Please advise.

Your best solution is re-partition them. Try moving them as one partition, then partition them again.

Did you remember to set one drive as a master and the other as a slave driver?

To do so. Removed the drive and look on either the front or back and it'll give you the jumper set up.

You have to go online and search then download the drivers for preparing SATA laptop harddrives for installation of Windows XP otherwise during installation it will tell you there is no hard drive found.

Trying to install hard drive on Dell Dimension 8200.

Sounds like the drive from the 4700 is a SATA drive which uses a different connector than the 40-pin IDE. I couldn't confirm it, but the 8200 may not have SATA connectors for this type of drive. Although the 4700 appears to have both SATA and IDE.

Hi

Dell Dimension 3000 accepts IDE hard drive. Any modern IDE drive should be fine

Check out Dell Dimension 3000 Service Manual for spec and how to remove and install parts.
