I have the same problem in my motorhome that has the same engine. I found a whole in one of my muffler, that didn't fix it. Now looking into spark plugs, fuel filter and new gas cap. I hope it isn't the injectors. I will also check my fuel pump pressure at the fuek rail.

My guess is injectors. The early duramax's had a lot of injector problems. They sometimes get to where they bleed constantly, and sometimes they break off... bad stuff. Check your oil for diesel. When my dads injectors when out on his 01 D'Max, his truck would run ok for a while, then lose power. Computer will cut power when it picks up an injector problem. BTW, Sightseer, diesels dont have spark plugs, however, the diesel filter is a good idea, you have to change them pretty regularly on the D'Max engines ( in order to try and prolong the injectors lives, mainly, the smallest bit of junk in your fuel can screw those early injectors up quick) I think they got the injectors mostly straightened out in the 04 models, what I've heard is thats the best model Duramax there has been, fuel economy, power, and reliability. Too bad all the year models arent that way :/

Im having loss of power going up large hills towing an RV. We have already drivin 600 miles and it was fine now this. Any suggestions

My best guess is a clogger/restricted fuel filter. Even if that is not your problem, you will feel good about changing it out. A lack of fuel will definately cause your loss of power.

You may also consider changing plugs, wires and other commom wear items.

Good luck!!!

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.

Truck fails to start

The 01 DuraMax trucks do not have a block heater, unless they were special ordered with one. Just turn the key to the on position a few times before you try to crank it, and hold the accelerator partially down while doing it. However, don't hold the accelerator if it starts to crank, it DOES need a minute to warm up before being revved. Also, use a diesel treatment when its cold, it helps a lot.
