1.check audio output settings and DVD format and compatibility with the player.
2. At the highest end, there are 2 types of HD sound (DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD). Since the 550 does not have an internal decoder for Master Audio, you will only be able to get TrueHD over the audio connections. To get both formats, you would have to use the 550's bitstream functionality which requires HDMI 1.3 (and likely an upgrade to your receiver).

However, the 550 will still decode the core tracks for Master Audio and you will still be able to enjoy surround sound for MA tracks.

It is because the latest disc is not formatted to play or is not been finalized by the manufacturer to play with 7.1.its a common manufacturers fault.there are many such complaints for this particular version of discs.
thanks.

I played some bootleg movies. And now my Sony DVD player (model DVPSR500H). Will not play Retail DVD's. What can I do? I tryed unpluging it. And that did re-set it.

Your DVD player is now locked to the region of your bootleg movies! Sony only allows a certain number of changes before it becomes locked to the 'chosen' most played regio.

You need to make your Sony DVP SR500H 'Region Free'. Try the following:

1) Switch on player
2) Open DVD/CD tray compartment
3) Using the remote controller, enter 2812
4) Press 9 on key pad (to make it multi region) and then enter or Nav Ctr button
5) Press CLEAR to exit

Good luck.

My bdps550 won't play bluray discs but it will play dvds

Go into the player's menu and disable BD-Live. Clear the memory if you can find it. I don't have a manual to guide you through so you'll have to look around.
I think this will work for you.

Problem with playing

Occasionally the software on most blu-ray players needs to be updated to the newest technology. The reason some discs play and some don't is because the discs that play are most-likely older movies or from a company that still used the "outdated" software. So the discs that don't play (most likely discs made with the updated software) won't play on your player until you've update the player's software. To do this visit, in your case, Sony's website for update info. There are a few ways you can get the info. You can download it directly to your player (if it has online accessibility) or you can request that they send you an update disc. Either way, most companies provide the update for free. Hope this helps, good luck!

Problems playing DVDs due to regional codes.

FIRST
CONFIGURE YOUR PLAYER IN THE LANGUAGE YOU WANT TO LISTEN, AND THE SUBTITLES YOUR GOING TO USE BECAUSE ONCE YOUR DISC IS BEEN REPRODUCED NONE MENU IS GOING TO WORK.
SECOND.-
PUT YOUR DISC ON YOUR REGION YOUR GOIG TO USE AND, SET ON YOUR REGION AND INMEDIATLY AFTER TO CLOSE THE COMPARTIMENT START TO PUSH CONSTANTLY, (TOO MANY TIMES), THE NUMBER "6" - ENTER
YOU HAVE YO PUSH IT 10 TO 15 TIMES , AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THE MOVIE WITH THE LANGUAJE AND SUTIBLES THAT YOU HAVE SELECTED BEFORE.
ENJOY YOUR MOVIE.
MAYBE FLIP UP A MESAGE LIKE " REGION INCORRETA" "WRONG REGIION", DONT WORRY, YOUR VIDEO IS GOING TO REPRODUCE HOWEVER.
IF 6 - ENTER DOESNT WORK, TRY WITH 7 - ENTER A LOT OF TIMES (I MEAN CLICKING) OR 8 OR 9 OR 10, IT DEPENDS OF THE NUMBER OF CHAPTER THE MOVIE STARTS.
ONCE YOU OFF YOUT REPRODUCTOR IT RESTARTED LIKE YOU NEVER DID THIS PROCEDE.
YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN EACH MOVIE YOU WANT TO PLAY.

or1. Switch on the player
2; Pop open the CD compartment
3. Enter the following code (using the remote): 2812
4. Highlight the region
5. Change to 9 (for Multi-region) using the 'Enter' button
6. Hit 'Clear' to exit
7. Pop in a DVD and enjoy!

Philips 7" DVD portable player

The PET702 will be a region 5 machine, whereas the UK DVDs are region 2.

DVD players from a particular region are designed to play only DVDs from the same region, due to copyright and distribution rights in each country or region.

However the PET702 can have the region protection removed by making it multi-region:

Switch on the PET702 and Open the tray.

Press SETUP button on the remote control, which will bring up the menu.

Highlight "PREFERENCES" and press OK.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [2], [5], [2], [3], [1], [5], [LEFT], [DOWN]

The screen will show: "Region Code: 2"
Press [1-6] to manually set the region OR [0] for multi-region.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [SETUP] to exit winksmiley.gif

You will now be able to play DVDs from anywhere in the world.

This is particularly useful, because region 1 DVDs from the US often come out when the movies are still in the cinemas over here. Region 1 DVDs can be bought perfectly legally by mail order or from the internet.
