Is your TV plugged into a surge protector? If not it very well may have gotten a power surge during the lightening storm that fried components in the TV.
Or is the TV connected to a cable box? It could be that the cable box took the hit if it's not plugged into a surge protector.
Or a possibility of both.
Try connection with a cable box that uses the audio/video output jacks and connect to a similar input on rear of set---you may have a bad tuner in the set and going via the AV jacks from a box to the set will bypass that.
U get a channel numder and menu screen do show up?Not the tv,it the incomming broadcasting signal cable plug in or the cable box itself have problems.Tries unplug,replug the tv and the cable box back in like about an hour later.The tv will reset itself to the factory setting and the cable box should upgraded it softwares.Should work now.If have the same problems,tell the cable company change the cable box or check the incomming broadcasting cable wire with another tv,see the incomming broadcasting signal cable wire,with a new cable box,see if it work.
It is up to you use the HDMI input so you can select it from your remote, notice one may be an output but the cable box hdmi device will plug into the box and the other end plugs into the hdmi cable connector. then select from your remote or your tv that hdmi connection to recieve signal, and set the remote to work with the TV and the Cable box, if you need more help post here and if this was helpful please rate.
There are a fews ways of accomplishing this.
It sounds like you may reversed your cable connections. Lets try these steps.
On the back of your cable box and your Go video VCR/DVD there are two coxial connections an (OUT) and an (IN):
Step 1. Connect the coxial cable from Comcast to the (IN) connection on the back of the cable box.
Step 2. Connect one end of a spare coxial cable to the (OUT) connection on the back of the cable box.
Step 3. Connect the other end to the (IN) connection on the back of your GO Video box..
Step 4. Connect one end of another spare coxial cable to the (OUT) connection on the back of your Go Video Box.
Step 5. Connect the other end of the Coxial cable to the back of your TV.
Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds?
yes & it is common problem.
And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers?
not at all.
The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV.
they are right that your problem is not due to tv.
it is due to cable box/service?
but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.
