Disk unreadable message from ffxi

I will get the disk unreadable message that others are having, I read through the solutions that were given, but when i go and try and reinstall it, it wont let me get to the screen with that option. The error message happens before the reinstall menu. Any ideas how to get passed this?

I had this problem.
If your disc is not damaged, then the most likely problem is the FFXI data has been corrupted.
This can happen if you improperly exit FFXI or the POL viewer, such as just turning off the console, or your console freezes.
Since the FFXI data is not displayed on the Memory section in the dashboard, and you cannot load the disc to reinstal from the POL viewer, you must reformat the HDD through the memory section of the dashboard.
Make sure to back up all other game data onto another storage device, as reformatting will delete everything.

There is a way to fix this without reformatting hyour hard drive and losing everything. What you need to do is take your hard drive and disk to another console and start the game, u will get an error message and go back to dashboard DO NOT PANIC, and do not try to start the disc again. Now put your hard drive back on your console and start the game, when the pol install menu comes up choose start pol. Now enjoy being back in the game without losing all your info.

Ok, so I had the EXACT same problem as this person. I recently installed the Ultimate Collection CD and am a current FFXI player. The game played fine the first day I installed it. Fell asleep playing the game that night, lolz, and it would not play the following day. Got the "Disk not readable" message multiple times. So the solution is:
Put your original FFXI cd in, log in, then simply log our PROPERLY. Once you are logged out, turn off your xbox and reinsert your new cd. It will read the disc and you'll be able to enjoy your game now. NO NEED TO FORMAT YOUR XBOX HARD DRIVE AND REINSTALL THE NEW CD!!!

Same issue here. I install the game, everything updates. Xbox360 reboots, I get disc unreadable message. Three FFXI ultimate collections and three hard drives later, same issue. Contacted tech support , did all the trouble shooting. No resolution. They are having me send the system in so they can take a look. All my other games play and save fine. Tried all the fixes, none worked.

If the disc is scratched that could be the problem. Unfortunately I had this problem right before I got the ring of death.

Unfortunately I dropped my Trekstor 500GB hard drive on the floor and now it registers as a removable disk with message "please insert disk into removable disk". My computer is a Windows vista. Can the...

An external unit has two main parts:
* the disk-drive
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter

In your case, the adapter seems to be working OK.

But, when Windows tries to read the 'table-of-contents' from the disk-drive, it cannot,
and so you get the 'please insert' message.

You might want to disassemble the unit, and remove the disk-drive,
and connect it as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer,
just to bypass the adapter, to see if the disk itself can be read.

So, about 0.1% of the blocks on the disk-drive are 'unreadable'.
This means that the other 99.9% of the disk-drive _could_ be readable,
namely all your files.

Search online for 'DATA RECOVERY' software -- it reads through the blocks on the disk-drive,
block-by-block, trying to 'stitch' blocks back together (like assembling a jigsaw puzzle) to
reconstruct the (unreadable) table-of-contents, and thus make it possible to copy the files
from that drive onto the 'C:' drive of the desktop computer.

I have a Zip 250 disk that will not read. When I insert the disk in the external disk drive, it will spin and stop a few times and that's it. When I try to access the disk/drive letter via "My Computer",...

If the disk is unreadable this means that the format or the files extensions on it are not readable in the operation system you use..either are damaged or the disk itself is damaged or it wasn't finalized like it should ...If other disks inserted run ok than the disk it is damaged and it is nothing wrong with the drive itself..When it says to insert a disk this means that it is not seeing the disk at all and it sounds like a drive problem ..but if other disks are ok ..than it is just a damaged disk or in a format unreadable ..beware if it a cd unit ..will not read dvd-es..or if it a dvd kind will not read large dvd-es (dual layer) or blue-ray disks..

Put in disk in 360. Play Playonline viewer, but screen goes black, and says cannot read disk, need to clean or restart. I did this several times and same result.

I had this problem recently. What happened was you closed the game without logging out of Playonline. The long shut down I call it. This corrupts the FFXI data on your HDD. And since FFXI does not appear in the memory you have to format your HDD and redownload. I can guarantee if you put the disc in your xbox with no HDD that it will read or even place it in an xbox with a HDD that has never had FFXI.

Clean the disc with a soft cloth FFXI xbox360

this is caused by the n November update in the MS xbox360 dashboard. This is a problem with the xbox communicating with the hard drive. This usually occurs in xboxs that are not using the HD shipped with the console. According to square the only solution to this common problem is that you reformat your hd and intsall the game again. yes, you have have to wait for that dl to finish. square also states that there is a possiblity that this may re-occur after the second install, though rare.

XBOX 360 ASSESINS CREED UNREADABLE DISK

I do believe its a problem with the disk. The disk may not be scratched or anything but it could possibly something internally wrong with it. I'd take the disk back and exchange it. Hope this helped! Have a great day!
