Disk unreadable message from ffxi

I just had this problem and I have a solution!!! You must reformat your xbox 360 hard drive. To wipe hard drive go to system settings, than memory and hover over "Hard drive" and hit Y and hit reformat, From there on it will give you directions. Reinstall game and your good to go! The problem is corrupt files thats why it will not start I hope this helps!! It worked for me!

I had this problem.
If your disc is not damaged, then the most likely problem is the FFXI data has been corrupted.
This can happen if you improperly exit FFXI or the POL viewer, such as just turning off the console, or your console freezes.
Since the FFXI data is not displayed on the Memory section in the dashboard, and you cannot load the disc to reinstal from the POL viewer, you must reformat the HDD through the memory section of the dashboard.
Make sure to back up all other game data onto another storage device, as reformatting will delete everything.

if the disc is scratched that could be the problem. Unfortunately I had this problem right before I got the ring of death.

Okay No that ISN'T the problem the Games works fine no scratches at all Brand-new pop it in the console install it and you get to play after a 5hr downloads yes cool, now after you get done playing...You log out black screen freeze up you turn the xbox on try to start FFXI up again NOPE says the disc is unreadable or dirty, and jus for all you ppl who say installing it to the HDD VIA pressing Y button and hitting install NOPE installation of the game is not supported what now? problem isn't solved I'd like to play FFXi on my Xbox 360 so I don't have to play on the PC my GF does Homework on the Fix hasn't been made for a year or so now.
