Connecting an external monitor to acer 5720

I have an external monitor I used to use with my acer 5720 but when I went to connect it recently the external monitor goes straight to standby and my laptop monitor goes black but I still have sound. The monitor used to work fine with this laptop and still does work fine with every other computer in the house. I must of changed some settings somewhere but cant figure out what I've done? Help please :o(

I have had this before with my Dell Latitude C540/640. I don't know the ACER 5720 but here's a couple possible fixes for you.

1. Press the function key ( "fn" key, generally a blue key or blue lettering and usually in the bottom left corner of your keyboard) and press F8 (may be a different key on your laptop, again, not familure with the acer. The key usually has either CRT/LCD printed on it, or two monitors on it, one its just an outline of a monitor and the other is filled in. This will run you laptop through the three monitor options it has. (LCD - LCD & External - Just External)

2. Try closing and opening the lid of your laptop. Sounds a bit strange but it works sometimes for me. My guess is when you close you screen it would "dim/turn off" the LCD and re-opening it convinces it to turn the screen back on.

Hope this helps!

Have an Acer Aspire 5000 and recently had the OS reinstalled. Since then, the Fn F5 button to switch to an external monitor doesn't work. The only Fn button that seem to work is the touch-pad or Fn F7...

can you switch to external by going to control panel > personalize > display settings and making changes there. and what are you connecting to projector, or another monitor?

I have got acer aspire net book size is 8.9 inch. Ca i connect it to external monitor

Sure you can with a standard VGA video cable.

Maybe you will have to change your screen resolution to get the best display layout.

Hope it helps!

Just changed the LCD screen on a 5720 and all I get is the backlight and a light blue there a reset or something i missed?

connect to an external monitor, and boot your system, and install the drivers for your new monitor.. should work.

if not, then the compatibility of the new monitor you hooked up, isn't good.

you con get a new LCD monitor using this information

to enable an external monitor you will have to switch it on by right-clicking on the desktop
( i dunno how much of the screen is blind/which corner you still see)
then goto display - properties - advanced - monitor : her you should be able to switch to the external monitor.

good luck

Connection to external monitor stopped working

Did you go to the display properties screen and check the settings of the second monitor connection. You must turn it on, and have it set to a low enough resolution for the monitor to work. If it shows the second monitor, Click Identify and it will put a number on the laptop screen. Which ever number doesn't show up is the external monitor. Select it and set the resolution down by grabbing the scroll bar and drag it to the left. Start at 800x600 or so and apply changes. If the monitor doesn't come on, check to see if the monitor is on.
