You can try an Initial Fill of your ink carts. It is the next level after attempting to clean the heads. However, if this only temporarily fixes your problem, you could have a leak in the supply tubes, or the head could have failed.

Turn the epson off. Hold down the buttons [Paper Feed δ]+[Paper Feed ∇]+[Cut/Eject] and turn on the printer. This will take you into a hidden service menu. Hit the [Paper Feed ∇] button until you get to "Cleaning" then hit the [Select] button to enter that submenu. Hit the [Paper Feed ∇] again until you see "Init Fill", and then hit the [enter] button. The display will say "charging". Just wait until it is done, then turn the printer off and back on.
If you do not have enough ink in the in the carts you will be prompted to replace them. The same goes for the maintenance tank. Make sure you put the ink lever back in the lock position if you change the carts. (It will not give you an error about the ink lever being down, it just won't do anything.)

The printer has suddenly stop printing. It acted like it was running out of ink-skipped every other line for a few lines. Changed the black cartridge twice and it still will not print-nothing at all. I...

theres a few solutions to this

first the printer is broken, check out warrenty status where you got it form or at the epson site

the c88 printers some times have problems with faulty ink injectors. if the printer is left alone for a long while ink dries up in the tubes and stays there preventing you form printing. put it near a heater (not too close so it burns) just close enough for a few minutes just to warm it up past room temperature then replug it again doing a nozzle flush with some compressed air /check nozzle status with the program epson supplied

Change black ink and now prints with white lines through the words on every other line

It is CLOGGED print-heads that cause the ink to _not_ be sprayed onto the paper, resulting in "white" horizontal lines.

Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle", using the Epson software installed when you installed the printer.

White lines running through printed line

The white lines occur when the print-heads do *NOT* output coloured-ink when they should be.

Run the Epson printer-software to "clean-the-print-heads".

The printer is only printing in two colors and only in lines going across the page. not a full print

Make sure that the ink you have, is Epson Ink.

I bought a compatible, supposely ink, and when I put it in, Colors did not come out the same. Lines and words, did not print out properly.

So I threw the ink cartridges, and bought original, Epson Ink, and Ooh-LA-LA, Printed out just fine.

Go Figure.

Good Luck

Horizontal lines (red) on first 1 - 2 pages of initial print-out

Do you refill ink tank? Print blank pages. Is there horizontal lines appear? It might be caused bay ink leakage. Check respiratory hole at ink tank and rubber seal at bottom of ink tank. Print blank pages until no horizontal lines and try to use new ink tank.

Printing

I would venture a guess that probably you both had the cartridge refilled. That is probably why there is air inside the cartridge. In effect a tiny air bubble acts like an air dam. You can try doing a lot of nozzle cleaning. There is a chance it flush out the air. Since is doing partial printing, chances are the bubble is not inside the printhead. So hopefully the flushing should solve both your problems. If it doesn't I'll refer you to a site where you can see the video of how to flush out the air. Also make sure you turn off your printer on the printer's power switch and not the AVR or power strip. This is sometime a cause for the blockage and sometimes it is also causes ink to dry up on the print head causing another kind of blockage.
