Re: movie colour

Hello, This sounds like a firmware error. The firmware is a basic software-hardware interface that will instruct the camera's hardware components on how to run based on the user's requests. If this is corrupted (remember, it's still a software component) some camera functions woun't work properly because the firmware can't adress the corresponding hardware components. If this had been a hardware problem, it would have been with the ccd sensor but in this situations the pictures would have come out in the same colors and with the same problems. I would suggest you take the camera to a generic "camera service" center, the smaller ones are cheaper, and ask them for a diagnostic, eventually a firmware update. They could fix your camera for a pretty small fee. I'm sorry I can't provide an easy fix for this. Good luck.

Cannot get movie camera off the DISP setting

hi Lisa
I found this about getting rid of the "disp" setting.
If you want to the colour bias, tap DISP while you have the White Balance selection active. Tap it again to remove it, making sure that you have the White balance active.

Hope this helps

Distorted when I play back a movie

It sounds like a codecs issue on your computer. A codec is a program that compresses data to enable faster transmission and decompresses received data. You didn't say what operating system you're computer is but you can download codecs packs from Microsoft or Apple directly from their site. Be very careful using any other codecs from other websites as they may contain malware!

Please disregard the 'Busy' message which may appear on the LCD screen during MPEG movie recording in VX Fine mode. Recording and playback operations, as well as recorded data, will not be affected.

Downloading movies from PowerShot SD850 IS to Mac G5

Sounds like you are watching the thumbnails but the files are still on the camera... try downloading/transfering via iphoto.. the files should show up in your iphoto library and if you double click them, it will launch quicktime and allow you to play it...
let me know if that gets you there...

Did you download the image to your computer? Was the image shown on the computer white also? If so, it is CCD sensor degradation. It will just get worse with time. Eventually the movie will mode will also show the degradation. Here's a site that outlines people's experience in getting this fixed:

How do i get sound to work in recorded movies

Some cameras you CANNOT play back on the camera, but it only works on the computer. Nothing is wrong, because that camera is basic. So yeah.

Pictures have a purple hue to them Cyber-Shot DSC-P52

I suspect that the color is fine in the screen, if that’s true I would check the “White Balance.” This control is use to compensate for different light sources. The electronics will respond different for sunny or cloudy days and for incandescent or fluorescent lamps. I suspect that it was taken out of AUTO mode. I find that AUTO works well for most people in most situations.
Select photo or movie mode press menu, select WB, select AUTO.

Downloading a movie from my Ixus 500

Refer to the attached pictures for instructions on viewign the movide. In order to download the movie to the camera, you need to connect the camera to the computer using a USB connector. If you have already set the computer for downloading pictures, then it is just like copying pictures from the camera to the computer. Only the movie will have a .mpg extension. If you need more help let me know. I have a soft copy of the instruction manual that I can email to you.
