Question about HP PhotoSmart C4480 All-in-One Printer InkJet

1 Answer

Excessive use of ink

My new Photosmart C4485 gets thru cartridges at an extraordinary rate despite B&W settings at 'fast draft', overspray set at 'least', ink volume's set at 'lighter'. Colour printing all at 'fast normal'. Previous PSC1317 lasted 2 months, this one 2 weeks... for my normal use! Any advice. Is this what I should expect from HP. Refill cartridges seem to be rejected by the machine! Are there other printers that are not so thirsty? Costing me a fortune!

The printer takes a long time to print.

Buy a faster printer.

And, no, I'm not being a smart-aleck

HP rates this printer at up to 32 pages per minute -- in fast draft mode black ink only... But even their ratings show it takes over a minute per page when doing quality printing in color.

And those speed ratings are all "after first page" -- ALL printers take longer for the first page due to the time it takes for the computer to set up the page and process the information.

As the specs suggest, you can get faster printing in black-only instead of color and by choosing fast draft mode instead of quality or normal mode.

There is very little that could be wrong with the printer that would make it print slower than usual -- generally any problem would make it not print at all or cause it to print incorrectly. Generally speaking whatever speed you see is simply the speed of the printer itself based on the settings you have selected, the software you are using, and the speed of your computer.

You can refer to the information on the HP website. It is just possible that replacing the printer driver MIGHT help but other than that there simply isn't much you can do about the speed of this (or any) printer unless you want to choose a lower quality print setting.

Not printing to fast draft

Make "fast draft" your default setting, otherwise, whenever you open a new document, it will print it in "normal mode".

It really prints so slow

Hi,
Try setting the printing properties to fast draft or draft. It provides a average quality document faster using less ink.
To do this, go to Start->Control Panel and then Printers. Right click on your printer and choose printing preferences. Find the setting for the quality and select Draft or Fast Draft if it is available.
Please note that this printer has a rate of 5.36 pages per minute, so even with the draft you will not see much difference.

nicolasiac

The ink cartridges need to be replaced very often epson 810

You can try to change your print quality to a lower setting. This saves a lot on toner. If you are not printing for anything super important you can set some printers to "fast draft" or "draft" quality and that saves a ton. I personally dont usually need to print anything of high quality so I went to my local "Everything" store(not sure if I should use company names) and bought an HP, the cheapest color printer they had which was $30.00 The black and color cartridges together cost about the same as the printer. But I use the lowest setting which is the "fast draft" setting and set it to print in black ink only, and only change that when I NEED something in color and it uses very little and prints very fast.

Won't scan, copy, or fax

You need to change the ink cartridge, the fact that it prints in fast draft is because it does not use as much ink to print as normal letter quality.

Going through ink cartridges too fast

Check the capacity of the ink cartridges (in ml). HP usually has high-yield cartridges which cost more, but have more ink. Also check your printing preferences to see what your quality setting is. Draft quality is fine for most text and saves alot of ink, Normal or High is only needed for photo printing. I believe Normal is the default.
