Question about Acer Aspire 4720 Notebook

1 Answer

I bought my acer aspire 4720z new while I was still living in Dubai in Aug 08. I never burned the second system recovery cd(I did burn the first one, but didn't have another blank cd available at that time.) Three days before I was getting on a plane to relocate back to the States, I got a SMART card error stating a Harddisk 2 failure. I also got the blue screen of death. With no time to have it serviced in Dubai, I packed it into my checked baggage, grit my teeth and meditated for the 22 hour flight back to NY (asking for God's Mercy the whole time;-) When I finally got home, and located the laptop buried beneath the tightly packed repetorie of hasty purchases from the latest in Dubai haute couture that accounted for my $785 bill in overage charges at the gate; I immediately called AcerUSA. I explained to them the problem and it was agreed all around that I had a corrupted hard drive. AcerUSA told me to mail it to their service center and they would fix it. A week later, my laptop was returned to me, but when I turned it on I got a black screen with white lettering and the message read: "No Operating System Found." OKayyyyyyy...I give AcerUSA a quick ringback and ask them about the oversight and that is when they informed me that "...because Acer is a 'regional' company, which means that Acer MidEast installs a slightly different OS than you'd get from AcerUSA and because of Microsoft regulations, when they replace the harddrive, the computer has to be reinstalled with all the exact same software that it originally came with. Because my model is from the MidEast, AcerUSA claims that they can't help me, so right now I have a fairly costly paperweight. I bought a copy of Vista Ultimate 32-bit and installed it, but I need all the driver updates and config's for my specific model which once again is an Acer Aspire 4720Z.

Thanks, I have a desktop as well and that was what I tried to do, but Acer Mideast's support page is wack. There are just way too many possible configurations for a suspense novelist who truly does believe, if you kick it just the right way; you'll jar all the pieces back in place.

I even went so far as to find out what wireless card I have installed in this piece of junk (Intel Pro-Set Wireless WiFi); logged on to the Intel website and downloaded the whole Pro-Set WiFi Connection Utility for Window's Vista Ultimate 32-bit...and...nothing.

Actually, I'm lying; if I connect the Ethernet cable from the wireless modem to my laptop, and then right click Network and Sharing Center, the Acer finally recognizes the wireless modem (even though it's not wireless anymore:-(

So here's the last straw I can grab at; while researching my problem I came across a few vague references to to the effect of installing the wireless settings on one computer through the use of a USB drive. I think it also had to do with setting up wireless networks (ie: home or small office); here's my question: Is there a way for me to download and save the wireless network configuration from my desktop computer on to my Kingston USB DataTraveler flash drive and then just use the USB plug as sort of a modified version of the ethernet cable to "wirelessly" connect to the internet?

I'd really appreciate any and all help. Have a great night.

Go to the ACER WEB site to their support/download page and download the Vista drivers you need (eg. video, audio, modem, NIC etc.) for your model laptop.
You most likely need to go to a friend's computer to get onto the Internet to download these files and then give him a case of beer to make him happy.

How to delete all my files and restore my acer 5336 aspire

Restoring from the Acer Aspire System Recovery partition is easy Most Aspires will have a second partition that can be used to restore if you do not have CD It is recommended that you make those CD when you first buy the laptop If you don t you run the risk of not being able to install Windows again if that second partition fails Restoring From The Acer Aspire System Recovery Partition Keep in mind that running the recovery will restore the computer to the way it was when you first brought it home Anything you added will be lost so make sure you have program disks passwords favorite websites photos, documents and anything else you need backed up before proceeding with the recovery of your Acer Aspire.Hard Disk Recovery should be enabled by default If it is not you may need to go into your system s BIOS by hitting F2 at boot and enable it under the Advanced tab Once Hard Disk Recovery is enabled, restart the system and hit ALT F10 This will begin restoring from the Aspire system recovery partition. You will be prompted to type six zeros as a security step Type 000000 to proceed You will then see a screen to select your Operating System. Do this and hit enter and the recovery process will begin You Cannot Use The Acer Aspire System Recovery Partition The process for restoring from the Acer Aspire System Recovery partition is similar with all major brand names The most important thing to remember is to always have backups of your data and take a few minutes to burn recovery DVDs using Acer s built in utility. Creating these backup DVD is vital If the hard drive fails you will not be able to perform a recovery from the Acer Aspire system recovery partition Create the media and store it in a safe place along with the rest of your software and computer documentation

I just bought Acer Aspire Netbook, I have forgotten my password and cannot get into anything. What can I do??

If it is the logon-password for Windows, re-install the Operating System, and set a new password.

If it is the power-on password, find the original sales-receipt, and telephone ACER, to prove that you, and not a thief, is in possession of your computer, and ACER will assist you.

Most likely your drive needs to be replaced. In most cases that means hardware problem related to the laser. But there is a chance that one trick will help you. If you are running Windows XP click Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools -->Services --> IMAPI CD BURNING COM SERVICE -->right click (on IMAPI), select properties --> Start up type drop down menu, select disabled --> click APPLY at the bottom. Reboot. Try to burn your disk.

Cd/dvd drive problem

Try with another brand of disk; the Matsushita UJ870 drive of our 5315 burn my Sony CD's but not my Philips CD's (my Compaq V2617LA with an older Matsushita UJ840 drive has burned Phillips CD's in the last two monts)... Remember: CD and DVD lassers are different. I think because of that, i haven't see problems with Sony, Philips and Samsung DVD's... only with CD's...

Perform a system recovery:
Does not come with recovery cd's - there is a program that allows you to burn the disks or
recover.
3 ways:

1. If in Windows - Start - Programs - Acer empowering technology - Acer E-recovery management -
click on Restore at bottom then "Restore to factory default settings"
2. Or click on Burn disks instead of restore
3. if unable to ge into Windows then Alt/F10 during boot right after Acer splash screen on startup
