Can I operate DVD Rcder. DMR-ES25 beyond stop, play, on/off/ disc in/out without the remote. I lost the remote; do I have to buy another to do things like skip chapters fast forward - condensed question, do I need the remote to do anything beyond the obvious controls of the recorder, or is there some code I can use?

1. Hold the power button in for 20 seconds if that dont help 2. on the machine itself hold both the channel up and channel down buttons in at the same time for 20 seconds. if it fails too 3. Press and hold the stop button and the play button at the same time on the machine for 20 seconds. and lastly 4. Hold the record and the play button on the machine at the same time for 20 seconds
these are all the reset methods listed in the users guide also make sure there is not a hold button on the remote!
I figured out, unlike all the other posts, you don't have an enter button. But Instead, you would hit the 2 and OK button at the same time for a few seconds. I had the RC1 message and I did the 1 with OK and it worked. so if you have RC2, you should hit the 2 and OK. Should work!!
Sounds like you may not have finalised the disk after recording it. You can't do this without the remote control, so you may have to buy another. My remote was broken and I got an exact Panasonic replacement from tvbitz.com or you can get them on ebay sometimes - part number IRC85049. When the disk is finalised you should be able to play it on any DVD machine. Steve
