Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a Carousel 2 Convection/Microwave model R-8560 with a fan that doesn't go off. I feel pretty convinced that I need to replace the thermistor however, I don't know where it is on the microwave.

I took the microwave apart and checked out the door switches; they are working but, the fan problem is unaffected by the door switches. Could you tell me where on the unit is the thermistor? I ordered one but, I don't know where it goes on the unit.

It took a while for the thermistor to show up but, I wasn't going to take the microwave out of the wall to check the door switches until I had to take it out anyway. The meter showed the door switches working normally. I replaced the thermistor and the unit works fine now. The door switches are probably the next thing to go so I'll keep that in mind the next time the fan won't stop. If anyone wants to know about thermistors I found a good web page.

These microwave ovens have a series of door switches. One of yours has gone bad or a plastic finger on your door mechanism that pushes the switches is worn or broken off. They are commonly called NC or NO swithes some ovens have up to 6 of these working together. If you have no expertise in this field consult a repair shop. Please rate me

did u check the door switches with an ohm meter? there are two types ,normally open and normally closed, NO NC . u have to check continuity on each one and each switch will have a diagram on the side showing its in use position. I dont know wher the thermistor goes on your model. I hope this has been helpful

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!
