Question about Sub-Zero 661/F Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer Compressor Leaks Oil and Stopped Working

Would this be considered a latent defect? Two years ago we replaced both compressors in our 25+ year old Sub-Zero. The freezer just died AGAIN & we noticed oil all over the place under the compressor. The repairman said the compressor had gone bad. What is the normal warranty for these things? We paid >$3,000 parts/labor for both compressors to last another 25+ years. Who is responsible for this? Sub-Zero? The repair company? Us? Help!

Hi I'm a subzero asc (Autorized service center) Subzero would not be responsible, your unit is out of there warranty. Now if the service company your dealing with is any good they can get a new compressor under a part warranty from there part distributor. Also in my many years working on subzero I have never seen oil dripping from the compressor unless you have a leak somewhere in the sealed system. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is see if your service provider will fix the unit. they will charge you labor if they get the part in warranty. It's possible that the service provider did not to the job properly but that's your word against there's. Good luck I hope everything works out for you..

How can you keep a idylis chest freezer in garage during winter? temp below freezing

20 years ago guys used to put a 50 watt bulb down in the compressor area BUT the freezers today have been designed with the condenser in the freezer wall and don't retain any heat in the cold weather. Generally what you will experience is the temperature in the surrounding area drops to 10 degrees the freezer goes off and when the area begins to warm up the compressor tries to start with syrup for oil in its crankcase and cycles on its protector until it gets hot enough to warm the oil and allow it to run. Compressor life is shortened and the freezer temp is unstable. A self regulating crankcase heater could be purchased at a local supply house and wrapped around the compressor but I don't know if its ever been tried on a compressor that small or if you might overheat the compressor. ............Can you say garage heater? Its a matter of system design. All of the components for a commercial conversion are out there but a system that small is never considered. Sorry wish I could help more. Hope this helps and good luck.

GE Freezer stopped working

Obviously, the compressor is not running. Confirm the presence of power to the compressor itself. If it is getting power and unit does not run, you have an open motor winding OR if you have a start capacitor the latter could be defective. Let's hope that you have the capacitor because they go bad and are a lot cheaper to replace than the compressor!

Our Amana refrigerator has stopped working. The compressor does not start and is cool to the touch. There are no clicking noises and no signs of life, no fan is running. The freezer and refirgerator are...

If you have power to the plug, then it is either the start capacitor, the start relay or the compressor. IIf it is the compressor it is a major expense, so you will decide how much you are willing to invest in an old one, before you buy a new one.

Refrigerator stopped cooling 2 days ago. Freezer works fine. What is broken? Appliance is four years old. Replaced compressor almost exactly 1 year ago.

Check the fan in the freezer and be sure it's working, isn't blocked by product or isn't clogged with ice. If this fan isn't working the refrigerator section won't cool properly.

The freezer is not working is not cooling at all. The compressor seems to be running but it gets very hot really quickly.

There is a possible chance that your compressor unit is faulty. You could have a failed valve within the system, check for oil leak gas leak. if so you will need to refill oil/gas. However since you have not indicated the age of the freezer, if the unit is older than 6 years , I would recommend that a new compressor unit be fixed or you must consider after looking at the cost of this replacement for a new unit which would be more power efficient and carries along a warranty.
Hope this helps.Good day

I have a 10 year old Kenmore top freezer that clunks when it shut

its the compressor,
i would not spend a dime on it,
a compressor is around 200 to put it in could cost up to 200 more, then its a long shot with who will be doing the work
10 years is the avergae age of this unit so count your self lucky
and invest in a replacement
the old one may
last a year, but it will go
your loosing the center seal
sorry its not beeter news

GE side by side refrigerator. Fridge side not cooling - help!

Hi, they have changed lots of parts, were they defected, did they tested parts for faults or they just change parts, because it's available, there's always a reason why a certain part, go bad. so far you change most of parts in ref. check refrigerant (gas, freon) pressure, check compressor, for faulty suction and high side valve, it's possible your compressor loosing efficiency. or say if compressor normally pump 50 psi. now it's pumping 40 psi. is the refrigeration cycle balance ? is there restriction in your ref. system? is compressor running long enough? plug on ref. let it run for 1hr, listen to compressor for any clicking sound, fans and everything else could be working, be compressor not, compressor could be short cycling (not working long enough) also check voltage in receptacle(outlet) with digital multi-tester, get accurate voltage reading, let me know, could also be a faulty circuit breaker in house (building) not your ref. let me know, system could have very slow refrigerant leak, you could have a very small (slow) gas leak, that's why your refrigerator get hot first, then your freezer, there's a condensate line (loop) that passes through, ref body, close to doors to prevent door gasket from freezing, after few years sometimes develope leaks, cause by rusting. it's very possible there could be small leak in your system. let me know what happened.good luck.

Frigidaire humming freezer not cold enough

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.

To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.

make sure you are using the right freon for the right oil.eg...new gasses can not pump old mineral oil therfore you sould make sure you are using a poly-ester oil, otherwise get hold of some old cfc gas..goodluck.
