Question about GE GSS22IFRCC Side by Side Refrigerator

Ice dispenser does not dispense ice (auger motor does not run)

The water dispenser works fine, as does the ice maker, but the ice dispenser does not. When the ice dispenser is pressed the light dims but the auger motor never kicks on. In addition, the compressor, or the entire refrigerator, kicks off and the refrigerator has to be unplugged for a few minutes to reset and begin working again. While the refrigerator is not working the lights inside still work.

The ice maker is working. It makes ice. The ice dispenser is not working. When ice is called for, the light will dim and, if held down long enough, the refrigerator will quit and need to be unplugged to reset. The auger never operates, but the water dispenser function still works. I have already replaced the auger motor, with no effect.

Just an addition to above;
..the dimming light and shutdown imply a high load and/or current consumption (dimming the light and causing the thermal overload safety to trip--resets when it cools down)...and as said above, auger obstruction by ice/jamming of some kind requiring excessive motor torque, or short in armature/field coils of motor (using too much current)...so would want to make sure auger turns freely by hand and check if motor works with auger/ice chamber removed...and really a short anywhere in circuit of ice dispenser to motor could cause--if shorting to ground.

This is directly related to the Main Control Board. GE will replace the board for free. If the board/fridge is less than 3 years old, they will install it for free also. If not you have to pay for the technician to come out and install it - $100.00.

That means that there is a short on ice dispenser solenoid.

For this reason you have to restart the fridge when you try to start the ice dispenser.

Replace the Ice dispenser solenoid, if this does not work, test and eventually replace wiring harness , or whole dispenser assembly.

Hi, many GE fridges have this problem. Mine stopped dispenceing ice, then intermittent on water till it didn't do either one. If you call GE costomer relations at 800-386-1215 and ask them about their "free replacement program" they can verify if you're on the list by your model/serial #. They have had a lot of problems with the main control board. They next day air mailed mine and it took 5 min to install myself.

Hi!

Remove the ice bin. Remove the wires from the auger motor. With the freezer door open and the door switch depressed, push the ice cube release and check for 120VAC between the motor wires.

If there is 120VAC then the motor has gone bad.

If there is no 120VAC then the control board (module time delay) has to be replaced

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi!

If you want to do this yourself then you can see the figure from the link--

Figure may slightly vary for diffrent models.

You would need to unsnap(use a flathead screwdriver in the 2 little slots underneath the bottom frame piece to unsnap it) your front dispenser frame#23.(From the figure)
Then look at your support bracket#15 to see if the little plastic pins are not broken that hold your ice and water dispenser switches in place#14.
If that looks ok, then you would need to use an ohm meter to test continutiy in your ice dispenser switch.

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:

  • It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:

    • If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.

    • If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.

In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.

  • The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.

  • The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Ice maker makes ice but can't dispense ice

Please try this. Remove your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly which is where the Auger (corkscrew) is located. You should be able to see the Auger Motor Drive Fork which is located permanently inside the freezer compartment... opposite the end of the Removable Ice Bucket Assembly that you just took out. Close the freezer door and attempt to dispense ice... if you can hear the Auger Motor running as you attempt to dispense ice... then the Auger Motor is OK. Dump out all the ice that is in your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly and wash it out in your kitchen sink with warm water. Reach into your freezer and put your hand on the Auger Motor Drive Fork ... you should be able to rotate it CW or CCW...it is a little hard to turn but it will turn. Position the Auger Motor Fork to a 12:00 and 6:00 o'clock position. Now take your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly and position its Receiver Auger Fork to a 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock ....Re install the Removable Ice Bucket Assembly into the Auger Drive Fork. Close the freezer door and again attempt operate the ice dispenser... you should hear the Auger Motor again run as you press the ice dispenser. Note....at this same time the Ice Chute Door in the Freezer Door should spring open so that ice can fall out. Of course you have no ice in the Auger at this time...but it all this works then future production of ice will fall out. Note...Usually the Auger Motor never fails. but the whole thing can get jammed with ice and not dispense. Also, the the solenoid that operates the Ice Chute Door fails quite frequently. Last but not least... if nothing is happening... it is a control board type problem. Hopes this helps! Handy Henry

GE GSS25LGM Ice maker not dispensing ice

You have one of three things wrong. The auger motor is frozen up, the ice bucket is broken or you need to dump out any ice, run warm water through the entire ice bucket, dry it out and try again with fresh cubes. My guess is the auger motor is frozen. You can buy a vinyl boot that covers the auger motor to prevent moisture buildup and freezing from GE Parts at 1-800-626-2002

Kenmore elite (106.53606202) ice maker will not dispense ice

When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.

Ice dispenser not working

Scorpio, remove the ice bin itself, dump the ice and see if you can move the bin auger by hand by turning the actuator in the rear. If the bin is ok, with the door open and the door switch held in see if the auger motor is turning when pressing the ice lever. If it's not turning the next logical step is to see whether the auger motor is getting voltage when calling for ice. Make sure the door switch is closed. The part number for the auger motor on the posted model is wr60x0202. Hope this gets you going..Catriver.
