Question about IBM Lenovo ThinkCentre M55e PC Desktop

Configuring two soundcards for parallel functioning

Hi,
I'm running a winxp pro (sp3) on a Lenovo M55e desktop pc. I would like to keep a permanent connection between my pc and my home cinema system. Since keeping such a connection, meaning permanent one, halts my system audio and tunnels all audio information exclusively to my home cinema system, I bought a second soundcard, TurtleBeach Amigo USB soundcard. I planned to connect the home cinema to this usb card, while leaving my onboard soundcard operative for pc system sound outlets.
Well, when I connected the new USB soundcard to the home cinema system's cable, my pc lost its audio (keeping home cinema as the exclusive active audio outlet.
Is there a way to satisfy my preferences? Can it be done on system level? Is it possible via software level (For example, is it possible to configure quicktime to use the external soundcard and Windows Media Player via onboard sc?

If so, what about the following solution:

    1. I'll physically connect my home cinema cable to my USB soundcard

    2. I'll keep both sound input and output configuration to my onboard soundcard.

    3. Whenever I need the PC-Home Cinema connection, I'll change the output audio settings to my USB SC.

    Will this work?

If a restart is needed, that becomes a real nuisance. Is there anything (application, registry specification, etc.) which can solve this shortcoming?

  • chermesh Jan 10, 2009

I managed to find a solution, well, sort of solution.

The QuickSoundSwitch is a program which resides on the toolbar. It allows switching between audio devices in a click. So far, it provides this useful service with one meaningful shortcoming, the there's no way to change the sound outlet inside a program. The program must be closed and reopened.

The program is free and it can downloaded from http://www.quicksoundswitch.toflo.de/

A windows computer can only use one sound card for one function

you can use the internal sound card for output
you can use the usb sound card for input / recording.

you can't use both for both.

Start -> control panel -> sounds and audio devices properties
open up audio page

You can have one device selected on Sound playback
You can have one device selected on Sound recording.

you can change which sound card is used for which function on this page. if you want to use the internal sound card set both settings to the internal if you want to use the external change both settings to the external.

WinXP with NERO8, and SP3

If you have WinXP and NERO v. 8, - then DONT upgrade yor system to SP3.
Your controlpanel disaper, and uninstall of the SP3 is impasible, but, - if you got this problem, do as follow:
"run" regedit, find and delete all nero 8 related issues, it takes about a milion years, but its the only way.
When this is done, and your controlpanel is reachable, delete SP3, and do all the updates for SP2 +.
Then reinstall NERO8 again, and you are back on track.

I am unable to open bios. Actually I wanted to change the boot sequence for HARDDISK TO CDROM but could not open bios. What to do?

Hi ranjanaghosa,

I see that you need to change the Boot Sequence on you Thinkcentre M55e but could not get in BIOS right.

to be able to change Boot sequence you can also try on tapping f12 as soon as you power the machine ON untill you get the Boot Menu you can also change boot sequence from there.

To get in the BIOS on a desktop you need to keep on tapping F1 as soon as you power the computer ON, but if still this does not work you can try Tapping on the Delete key to get in the BIOS, getting in the BIOS depends on the motherboard some use f1 to get in the BIOS some use Delete to get in the BIOS on desktops.

but using the F12 key can be done as well if the F1 or Delete key does not work.

I hope that this helps.

Have a nica day,

I have lenovo think centre m55e 9637 desktop.I want ethernet controller driver for this.I tried installing q3etn14us13.exe driver but it's not working.

I'm assuming your OS, is windows Xp since that is the driver you are installing it for. Try uninstalling the driver by right clicking my computer -> manager -> device manager -> Network Adapters and underneath it click uninstall. Then try reinstalling. If that still doesn't work try installing a previous driver, such as this one: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_drivers/q3etn12us13.exe
And that should work definitely work for you. Please make sure you have Windows XP and not Windows 7 32 or 64 bit.
