    Hi billspeer,
Firstly I've had a spot of Tea anyway, fancy a cup Tee Hee.
I'll keep this as simple as possible
    A) Tried the exceptions thing I was informed "they already exist.
    B) I'm not sure where the "Area that allows to configure Exceptons is" as you suggested
    C) Restore the System - Well this has been since mid December so I can't re set to way back then.
I'm under the impression it's all there however it is blocked in some way.
I've also noticed when looking at JAVA it says "this needs re starting"
I Hope this makes things clearer or not as the case may be.

By the way, WOW, Diablo, etc has their own ports. They are 3723 and 3724. Interesting.

I'm wondering if it is telling us those ports are closed or blocked off? Port 80 is the one that the server listens to or expects to receive from a Web client. Port 443 is the same but is secure (https). At least, if memory serves correctly ;-) Port 21 is for FTP transfers. If the first 2 are blocked, I'm surprised you're able to do anything at all with that computer on the web. See if they are open on your computer. If not, go to the Help section of your PC to get detailed instructions on how to open them. I could list them, but I'm at work....shhhh.

Silly question but I'm assuming you can get on the web with the computer in question? Can you take a screen shot of the error message when you get it? With it on the screen, hold down Contol and tap Print Screen/SysRq key (should be top right). This will take a snapshot of it. Open MSWord and paste it in the blank document. Send it to so I can see what it says.

Let's see if this helps...Go to Start>Control Panel> Firewall. Choose Firewall (this is turned on by default in WinXP SP2) and choose the Exceptions tab. You'll see at the bottom an Add Program button. Browse to the executable file of your programs and add them.

However, if you have a different firewall program (Norton, Comodo, etc.) look for the area that allows you to configure exceptions. It could be they are being blocked that way. Should I assume you could do it a little while ago but now are unable to get online with them? If so, a setting may have changed and can be undone with System Restore. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> System Restore. Make sure Restore my computer to an earlier time radio button is selected, click Next and choose a bold date on the calendar that coincides with a time you know your programs worked. Click Next until it is done and have a spot of tea while it does its thing. Normally takes a few minutes but doesn't cause you to lose emails, documents, pics etc that were recently created. Let me know if this works.

Web Site Blocked by NETGEAR Firewall

The most common problem for your case is that the settings at the Netgear router block the web site you are trying to visit. Go at the router's settings page, locate the firewall settings and temporary disable the firewall. Check the results. In case this solve your problem, either disable the firewall or modify the existing rule that block the url that you visit. Alternative you can check the block site list at the router settings page (sometimes called parental control) and remove the url from this list.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer. Also clarify me the model of your Netgear router and the site that you have the problem.

Steve bridges videos keep pausing..little circle goes round and round.

Important note
1.The action taken in the video transmition on the web has to be indicated by a logo of activity that is taking place during a video download.
2.The round circle is simply the action icon chosen by the web host to indicate to you that video is on its way from one computer storage to another computer screen.

The conditions that cause videos on websites to apear momentarily are explanable
1. The uploading process is still taking place by the web administrator broadcasting the video. for example, the admisnistor of the web would be still recording the video only causing momentary displays at a time.
2.Th e computer system infrustructue is build to only transmit a few loads per second considering several factors
a. High impact cameras produce cristal clear pixles during download or records. Any camera without such functionlity only causes delays or poor transmittion capabilty especially when send and received over cables.
3. Finally, the internet telecommuncation set up has several causes to the condtion of momentary downloads.
a. High speed broadband achievaable by subscripton preference from an internet provider could solve slow motion on multimedia transfer on web sites for example.
b. The kind of network infrustructure set up where cables are faster transmittion lines over phone lines cause the website transfer to appear momentarily, a meams for the computer to only produce results based on the kind of structure option provided.
c.The features of the web hoser allowing videos to moves away from the web site. A web host could simple disable the features making posible fast networking or only wanting to allow a few transmittion at a time.
d. The computer infrustructure on the receiver of the video is simply dissallowing programs from arriving expediantly to be displayed on screen. A situation like that is discussable

1. Your computer has to have the features allowing for videos to display like needed. for example, video cards a high multimedia apabilties could be installed, the multi-media functionality of the computer could be adjusted to display videos with all intergral pixels possible.

My web browser will not let me visit any 2wire settings websites

Consult your user manual for this information.
It is possibly a firewall issue that is not allowing this web site or it is the ISP that has blocking or the web browser itself is blocking the site due to security settings.

Help I'm being harrassed online?

if you look in start - settings - control panel you will find an icon named windows firewall
This is part of windows
If you double click on it you will see 3 tabs. Important for you is tab called exceptions. There you will find yahoo . If you check it no more firewall message wil shown when accessing yahoo.

Be sure if you have router too there is another firewall.

sdef_definition.gif - A firewall is a set of related programs, located at a network gateway server, that protects the resources of a private network from users from other networks. (The term also implies the security policy that is used with the programs.) An enterprise with an intranet that allows its workers access to the wider Internet installs a firewall to prevent outsiders from accessing its own private data resources and for controlling what outside resources its own users have access to.

Can connect to internet but cannet assess web

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings.
What i want you to do is right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the network adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the network card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Good luck

How to get rid of old "unsecured" wireless network

Are you referring to the Linksys SSID showing up when you browse for available wireless networks? Also, are you in an apartment building or otherwise relatively close to other houses/residents? It is possible that you and a neighbor both have Linksys APs and if neither was secured originally, your neighbor could have been connecting to your AP and vice versa. This definitely would explain slowness especially if you or your neighbor does any type of video or audio streaming.

One way to test this is to shutoff your Linksys router and view available wireless networks on your computer. If "Linksys" still shows up, it is most likely someone else's router/AP.

As long as your SSID shows up and you can only connect to it via the WEP key, your AP is secure.

Let me know if you get different results than I explained above.

VPN Access does not work

Use should add arp proxy setting as the following:
Go to Interfaces and then click on PPTP/L2TP server from the PPTP/L2TP Page go to the Add ROute Tab.
Allowed Networks should be : All Nets
under Proxy Arp you have 2 Boxes:
One is: Available and the other is Selected.
Under Available click on LAN and move it to Selected.
now save and activate and it should work.
