Re: Dryer will not get hot.
There is a glow bar that ignites the burner. The glow bar probably needs replacing, check it with an ohm meter, usually you can see if the glow bar is broken because it is ceramic and is usually broken. Be carefull when replacing the new one not to touch the part that glows
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Dryer possibly overheating due to plugged vent. They will go into a safe mode and shutdown the heater if not enough airflow. Results in starting hot but ending with a cold load of clothes! Check the belt to ensure the dryer fan is working and that the drum is properly rotating. If OK and the vent is clear then check the thermostat. Depengin on the type (Gas vs electric) there are a number of limit thermostats as well as a main thermostat. Likely you have a a limit switch kicking in to shut off the heater. Normally from lack of airflow (plugged vent, fan broken, etc...) Once unit cools down will start back up but shut down again once the heater comes on. Also check to see if the heating element is shorted to the side of the metal case. Will heat up and be intermittent.

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating
the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows
sometimes it is still not working properly.
It could be several other things thermal fuse, thermal cut out, hi limit thermostat, dryer coils, heat sensor,or igniter. All of these parts are inexpensive and easy to test and replace. There is a video atthttp://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html his will walk you thru the troubleshooting of these components. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.
Tromm LG DLG5988 gas dryer
Heater not turning on
Gas light on
Cooling light on at the same time
Heat Sensor light on
I checked gas it is on and flowing through the pipe up to the dryer
Can't find igniter, reset switch or fuses on the dryer
The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower
housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air
coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse. If the
dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still
run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle)
thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas
valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the
no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is
energized the flame sensor
mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the
ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the
and that frees up the power so that the coils can be fully
energised and open the gas gates. The gas comes out and hits the red
hot igniter and you have ignition. It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes
or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to
the gas valve assembly. So...
If your gas dryer has a good flame sensor and a good igniter AND the dryer will work some and quit, replace these:
Gas operator coils part# 279834
The coils get hot and quit on these machines when they get a
little age on them. It is aggrevating because it is a hard to diagnose
thing. But well worth the 20 bucks.
My gas dryer will not heat, what could stop my dryer from heating? A- Things that could stop a gas dryer from heating: - glow bar igniter, thermal fuse( not all models ), coils on the gas valve, gas valve, thermostats, motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, sensor. A page for checking gas dryers ishere.
I read on another page
1) One of the thermostats could have a reset switch on it to cure problem... do not know where to find it or what it looks like! ....
2) May need to replace the element...
3) Could be the exhaust thermostat / or heater and thermostat complete/ check continuity...should be normally closed(complete circuit)
Any help to you ????
Best wishes willow
th problem could be either the globar igniter or your gas valves. first disconnect the machine and then remove the front panel. the globar is the ceramic piece at the end of the gas valve. visually inspect it for any cracks. if its cracked replace it. if its not cracked remove the plug from the globar and using a volt meter check at the plug for continuity. if you have continuity go to your parts store and get a set of gas coils ( its a common part interchangeable for most brands) replace coils and that should do it
