Question about Kenmore 73952 / 73954 / 73959 Top Freezer Refrigerator

3 Answers

Leaking water I have a Kenmore 73959. Never had ice maker used. Inside, it is leaking water everywhere. My shelves are soaked and under the drawers it fills up with water until it overflows and leaks out of the front under the door all over the floor. I took the bottom back panel off. And there is a little plastic tray with a hose from the bottom of the frig down to the tray. The tray is bone dry and the hose isn't stopped up. I think this is the drain hose. I cant find where the frig drains from the inside. I took the drawers out and cant find a hole. But the frig is clean so I cant see it being stopped up from the inside.

Re: Leaking water

Its funny you write today. I went to an appliance repair shop and they showed us just yesterday how to take it apart. That back freezer panel. When we got to the drain it you could feel ice frozen up clear to the top. We ran hot water in it tell it unfroze and so far it hasn't leaked but sometimes it takes a few days. But this sounds exactly like what you are saying.

Re: Leaking water

Disregard previous solutiuons provided, the problem is caused by internal drain channel being frozen up. solution, turn unit of, defrost with freezer door open overnight, turn on the following day, unit will be working in approx 24hrs. Regards Advisor

Re: Leaking water

Test: first, turn off water supply to frig. then dry up all water. then ensure frig is running at right temperature. now gradually turn on water and observe where leak is. My guess is it is overflowing the ice-maker. there is an adjustment for this. pop off the cover over the end of the ice-maker. look for a screw adjustment. turn it counterclockwise.

Mod: 10651262103, icemaker leaking, not making ice

We need to know if the ice maker overflowed or if there is a crack. Sometimes the water gets frozen in the fill tube and diverts the water everywhere other that ice maker. Rare but sometimes something causes the water control valve to stick open on rear of refrigerator. Your ice maker has a thermostat inside it and starts a cycle when the thermostat says the water has frozen. That starts a cycle of about six thing to happen. The defrost element below ice maker warms the bottom just enough to loosen the ice. Micro switches feel and sense the position and as it nears ending the final step the ice maker tells the water control valve to open for a few seconds. An adjustment in that control may stop over flow. But if cracked in a major section it will need to be replaced. Let me know if this helps you. Sea Breeze

During the defrost cycle heaters inside the walls of the freezer turn on to melt the frost. The melted frost "water" is supposed to drain into a pan under the fridge where it will evaporate. I think the drain line from the freezer to this pan may be blocked. I'd also check the seal on the freezer door. If it's not sealing well it lets a lot of moisture into the freezer which means more water during the defrost cycle. I'd also recommend checking to make sure the ice maker is not leaking.

Water if leaking inside the refrigerator -- in the drawers and under the drawers and on the shelves! Please help!!

Probably a plugged drain in the freezer compartment. Open it up and investigate. You may need a hair dryer to thaw it out. Hope this helps!
