The main reason for cartridge replacement problems is the locking mechinasim not fully retracting. When you slide the platen to the left and open the door on the right make sure you open it all the way. It should go to a little mor them a 90 degree angle. You should be able to remove easily at this point when putting cartridge back in if you look at the back wall in betwwen the cartridge guides you will see a white plastic circle with a triangle in the center make sure it is flush with the metal if not push the door a little more to the left.

I assume you try with brand new cartridges. Maybe you have already broken a cartridge guide. check it out: slide the platten glass as you'd normally do to change the cartridge, then if the cartridge is in take it out (carefully) and now looking the inside take a look at the side further of you (the side closest to the back). there should be a one-piece black plastic stuck in the metal chasis right where the cartridge slides. if it's broken (or moves) it may be the cause of your hard time. Let me know!

Title:
REPLACE TONER (video instructions available)
Description:
The message REPLACE TONER indicates the toner cartridge needs to be replaced with a new one. Please follow the steps below to replace the toner cartridge.
NOTE: Videos and illustrations shown below are from a representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.
HINT:
The Brother machine has separate consumables: the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Verify you replace only the toner cartridge, and not the drum unit. Click here to see the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit. Also you can confirm the order number (Order No.) of the toner cartridge on the Consumables & Options page. Click here to go to the Consumables & Options page.
Make sure that the machine is turned on. Open the front cover and leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes to cool down.

Caution
You must ensure the machine is turned on when you replace the toner cartridge so that the machine recognizes the toner has changed.
After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.
Hold your Brother machine with one hand, and take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly by pulling on the handle in the middle of the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. We recommend that you place the drum unit and/or the toner cartridge on a clean, flat, level, stable surface with a sheet of disposable paper or cloth underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
* This movie is being streamed from YouTube. (Opening new window.)
DO NOT use cleaning materials that contain ammonia, alcohol, any type of spray, or any type of flammable substance to clean the inside or outside of the machine. Doing this may cause a fire or electrical shock.
DO NOT use any type of spray.
Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.

Caution
DO NOT put a toner cartridge into a fire. It could explode, resulting in injuries.
Be careful not to inhale toner.
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe or wash it off with cold water.
To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration.
Be sure to seal up the toner cartridge tightly in a suitable bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the cartridge.
Go to Above Mention Official Brother Printer Url Link for instructions on how to return your used consumable items to the Brother collection program. If you choose not to return your used consumable, please discard the used consumable according to local regulations, keeping it separate from domestic waste. If you have questions, call your local waste disposal office.
Unpack the new toner cartridge. Hold the cartridge level with both hands and gently shake it from side to side several times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Pull off the protective cover.
* This movie is being streamed from YouTube. (Opening new window.)
Caution
Wait to unpack the new toner cartridge until immediately before you put it in the machine. If a toner cartridge is left unpacked for a long time, the toner life will be shortened.
Put the toner cartridge in the drum unit immediately after you have removed the protective cover.
To prevent any degradation to the print quality, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustrations.
DO NOT touch the toner surface.
Brother strongly recommends that you DO NOT refill the toner cartridge provided with your machine. We also strongly recommend that you continue to use only Genuine Brother Brand replacement toner cartridges. Use or attempted use of potentially incompatible toner and/or cartridges in the Brother machine may cause damage to the machine and/or may result in unsatisfactory print quality. Our warranty coverage does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of unauthorized third-party toner and/or cartridges. To protect your investment and obtain premium performance from the Brother machine, we strongly recommend the use of Genuine Brother Supplies.
Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. Make sure that you put in the toner cartridge properly or it may separate from the drum unit. If you put it in properly, the green lock lever will lift automatically.
* This movie is being streamed from YouTube. (Opening new window.)
Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times. Be sure to return the green tab to the home position. If you do not, printed pages may have a vertical stripe.
This movie is being streamed from YouTube. (Opening new window.)
Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine. Close the front cover.

Independent-supply toner message

Treat the same as "Non-Genuine Toner". Caused by installing a refilled toner cartridge or taking out cartridge out, putting a new toner, and then putting the old one back in. Place a new toner in the machine, change SP5-051-001 to 1, and cycle power.

BROTHER-MFC7430 Toner life end

actually, you dont' really need to replace your drum, your drum actually is good for 5-6 years.
you just need to clean up the drum with duster and put that back into the machine.
when reset the drum, you just need to open the front cover and press Clear buttom then 1.
after that the whole thing will be reset and ready to go for it.

New yellow toner cartridge but no print due to "low yellow toner"

if you got the seals of of the new cartridge, then sometimes opening and closing the toner door will help the indicator go away. I have 2 of these and sometimes it takes a bit for the toner to work it's way into the system.

It sounds like you are replacing the toner cartidges NOT the Drum Unit. Drum is located behind the toner cartidge and you will see it after removing toner. Pretty common mistake :)

Getting LCD Error: Toner not set Insert Toner

Sometimes what causes the problem is the black cartridge guide on the inside rear of the machine. It comes loose and so when you put your cartridge in it does not line up with the contacts properly. The parts cannot be ordered seperately. It comes with the whole rear assembly. The part # for it is HM1-0244

Toner dust

It really sounds like a defective cartridge. There is a metering blade in there that puts the right amount of ink onthe roller, if its not right it will just throw it into the machine.
You need to vacuum the machine out, return the cartridge for a new one.

When you put a new cartridge in I take it you have removed the black cap that sits on top of the toner bottle (if you haven't remove it) The machine as default allows a 15 second gap from when you open the door and put the cartridge in to when you close the door. If you are too fast at changing toner open the door wait 15-20 seconds then close the door . Machine will then show on the control panel that toner is loading. If this does not work repeat two more times if still does not work then the drum unit (Photo Conductor Unit) is not accepting toner you will have to replace it.

Hope this works

"toner empty" problem

The samsung sf 5100 toner cartridge has a .05 Amps fuse in it. This gets blowed when you switch on the machine. This is used to reset the page counter and also to inform the machine that you have inserted a new toner. Now this recycled cartriges will not have this fuse and this is the reason why your machine shows TONER EMTY message! If you dont get the same rating fuse, put any fuse of the same size, insert the toner, close the door and just switch on the power and switch off immediately. Then take out the Toner cartridge and remove the fuse. Now your cartridge is ready for use.
