Question about RCA M4208 MP3 Player

1 Answer

I made a grave error

Let me start by telling you that the program I downloaded from the RCA website did not fix my problems.
I recently got the RCA Opal 8 GB M4208-GR and unfortunately I wiped clean the player, resetting it in some way. In an effort to recover the software and tools, I downloaded the free EasyRip program from the RCA site but still cannot make changes in preferences using the EasyRip Module.
My errors read as such:
Cannot open file /RCAeasyRip/skin/Prefs/preferencesLarge_bg.png."

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:
DeleteFile failed; code 5
Can any one offer suggestions? I have sent a few emails to RCA and have yet to receive attention to the matter

I did the same thing, and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it. Is there a number to call or anything?

I resolved my error and maybe you should try uninstall, install one more time.
For what ever reasons, I uninstalled the programs then reinstalled the program and the files are complete again.
I know I did this once before and it did not fix the problem either times so perhaps you can try it one more time.
Simply ask the RCA software to uninstall from your pc harddrive, making sure that all the files have been removed including any RCA Detective and EasyRip. Then go to the RCA website and sort through the Support and Download Updates and find the EasyRip software you can download for free from the site and follow the instructions, making sure that your player is connected to the pc while you install the software again.
Good luck and give that a try. Tell us your results here.

Maybe I did not properly uninstall all components the other times or I moved some files from one location to another improperly.

Give that a try though. Uninstall any and all RCA software related to the player. You may want to save whatever music you currently have on the device to a seperate file on your pc. Then look for the free EasyRip software download available on the website www.rcaaudiovideo.com and click it, save it, then run it. It finally worked for me.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

Anyway, that's my time. You folks have been great, Drive careful and don't forget to tip your wait staff.

My mp3 player will not turn on won't do any thing I've changed the battery and plugged it into my computer and it won't even turn on when I do that.

Try this solution:

Downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
check the box that says "format data",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again. It also fixed my aac-error problem.

Wont go pass the frot screen then it always turns off

Last night I replaced my battery and my unit would not go any further than the Pearl logo. So this morning I downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2556, and followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing"

replaces "searching",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

Note: when I tried this last week to fix the aac error message, it did not fix the problem with some music files. After following these steps today, plus making sure the format data box was selected, I can now play the troublemaking files without errors.

I can't uninstall the RCA easyrip software

How long has it been since you installed it? If recently try this option (system restore) will take you back to before you installed it. Start/all programs/system tools/system restore. A screen will pop up and should give you a calender of events. You want to check the day before you installed the software and it will restore your computer programs back to that day. (you will not loose file/music etc) only computer programs will be lost that were installed after that day and you will need to resinstall if any. This my take 5-10 minutes depending on your pc. It will tell you its complete but do not disrupt the process once its started.

I have an RCA TH1611 MP3 player it will not turn on. Battery is brand new. The computer will not recongnize it

Sometimes the firmware or player files are garbaged and the player looks like it starts halfway then freezes. If this is your problem and you're sure the battery's fine (and in the right way) then you can try to reload the flash on the player and as a last resort reformat the file area as well.

Go the RCA support website and download the latest flash for the th1611 and run the program. You may be lucky off the bat, but if the first attempt fails review the troubleshooting procedures that will tell you to hold the play button while plugging the device into the usb port. If, after the program flash, the device still fails to start, you'll have to erase the file area to un freeze the device.

I had a weak battery that that I pulled out while the device was starting and it seemed to corrupt the player. Thisprocedure worked for me.

FYI, the flash program works on XP 32bit, but I don't know if it will work with Vista

I foolishly deleted EasyRip software from player and pc

Will tell you how to work around the easy rip.
You will need two free programs
1st program Any Video converter
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
It will convert the files to any output u like.
I like Mpeg 2
2nd program SMV Converter.
http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm
Have this convert the file to a smv file.
After its converted just drag and drop into the video section of your mp3 player.

The solution is to reset your firmware.
You can get this directly from the RCA website at

http://download.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/OPAL_4GB_8GB_FWUtility_v1.2.8.0.exe

Or you can try to fix your problem using someone else's files for your player.
You need to set your computer to view hidden files for this--the firmware on your player uses hidden files like this. I don't have those files handy--you may try searching online forums for onther m4008a users.

Good Luck!

I was having the same problem as the rest after hooking my RCA S2001 MP3 player up to my new computer that is running Windows Vista Home. I did the following to fix my MP3 player on my old computer which is XP Home.
I fixed my player by loading the latest firmware version (1.5 at this time and can be found at http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=124&post=6 ). After you load this application to your computer you access the update device application from the start menu/programs/RCA digital Audio Player/Jet/Update device. One thing that I had to do that had not been mentioned yet in this forum was selecting "Format data area"
f2ba14f.jpg
Doing this wipes your device completely clean but it allows for you to keep using the device. The update device program will give you additional information after the update and format.
This should fix your device if not contact RCA through the same website above to ask additional questions.

M4008 Opal mp3 player error message

I went to the rca site and downloaded the firmware update. It told me how to reset the unit. You have to let it crash, then start it from the Start menu. Then you plug in your player while holding down the play button while it loads. It managed to get it running but I still can't add music.
