Question about HP ATI FireGL4 (128 MB) Graphic Card

1 Answer

Dual monitor, Intel 82915G, ATI Rage 128 card, FC6

I want to setup dual monitor for the Dell Optiplex Gx520 computer.
The motherboard has an Intel Corporation 82915G Integrated Graphics Controller.
Then I add an ATI Rage 128 video card.
The dual monitor work on Windows 2000 with the Intel chip as the primary screen and the ATI chip as the secondary screen.
Therefore no problem with the hw.

However, dual monitor does not work on the Fedora core 6 (can't use FC10).
The ATI chip is working but the Intel chip do not work (moving the mouse do not go to that monitor and no image is displayed on the monitor).

I configure dual monitor by using the "System, Display, Setting" menu and clicking the "dual head" checkbox, then restart X server.
/etc/X11/xorg.conf is as follows:
# Xorg configuration created by system-config-display

Section "ServerLayout"

Screen 0 "Screen0" LeftOf "Screen1"
Screen 1 "Screen1" 0 0

To try to setup dual monitor, then I modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf to switch the Videocard0 & Videocard1 sections..
i.e.
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"

BusID "PCI:0:2:1"
Screen 1
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard1"
Driver "r128"
EndSection

I power down & up the computer but the same problem is still here - the ATI chip is working but the Intel chip do not work.

My Dell E771a on 32mb ATI Rage 128 Ultra monitor shows my screen as hour glass. How can I make my monitor return to default settings to correct? Is this a driver update maybe?

That is a monitor problem, the s correction in the horizontal deflection circuit has failed. Take the monitor to a tv repair shop to have it fixed.

Um a ati rage 128 pro is not a very powerful card, and after win 98 there isn't any support for direct3d or opengl. So you will need to upgrade to a better card if you expect to play games.

Ati Rage 128 Ultra Pro 32MB Crashed

Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program.  Have you tried that system with a different monitor, or is that monitor working correctly on another system?   Just trying to confirm it's the video card and not the monitor itself.

Another step you can try is to go into the BIOS / System Setup of that GX 240 to see whether the problem is only happening as it tries to load the drivers.  I sort of doubt that it is from your description but you can test it pretty quickly by tapping the <F2> button when the Dell logo would first appear.  If the video is normal in the System Setup that would let you know if the basic video functions of the card are working correctly.

But to be honest it sounds like the video card is failing from your description.  I assume your system's service contract has expired?

If you would like more detailed help feel free to email us at Customer_Advocate@Dell.com.  Please include my first name, Todd, in the subject line of the email and reference this issue so I can pull up information to try to help you.

Thank you,

Todd
